The Controller is accountable for the accounting operations of the company to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. The Controller manages accounting operations including payroll, purchasing, general ledger, capital accounting and financial statements.
Guides financial decisions and protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures
Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data and conducting audits to monitor and confirm financial condition in a timely manner
Prepares budgets, makes recommendations and forecasts by establishing schedules and collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data while also preparing annual cash forecasts which are updated quarterly based on results
Oversees acquisition of supplies/equipment and insures the organization has adequate controls in place to minimize expenditures
Manages the capital expenditure cycle including forecasting, approval processes, required supporting documentation, and tracking actual compared to forecasted expenses
Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures, forecasting capital and receivable collections
Ensures that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner and that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
Ensures periodic bank reconciliations are completed, required debt payments are made on a timely basis and accounts receivable are collected promptly
Coordinates outside audits
Completes financial reporting, debt compliance reporting and monthly closing process and makes changes to the financial reporting package as the business changes and based on feedback
Oversees the payroll process to ensure timely employee payments and tax filings
Maintains the chart of accounts, an orderly accounting system and a system of controls over accounting transactions
Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
Keeps financial information confidential
Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislations, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports and advising management on needed actions
Maintaining regular attendance, punctuality and adherence to agreed-upon schedule of availability are conditions of employment and essential functions of this position
MINIMUM COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university in accounting required, MBA preferred.
Work Experience: Ten or more years of experience in finance and accounting functions with increasing responsibility, including 3-5 years leading a team in a global organization with operations headquartered in the US.
Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Certifications / Licenses: Certified Public Accountant
• English proficiency required.
• Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Philippines Financial Reporting Standards.
• Knowledge in automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
• Supervises and carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
• Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
