PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Patient Evaluation
Reviews patient's chart and physician order for physical therapy before initiating treatment in accordance with department policy.
Evaluates patient's condition and therapeutic needs by selecting and administering appropriate tests and assessment tools as determined by professional standards.
Demonstrates proficiency in assessing for patient equipment.

2. Patient Treatment
Instructs and explains prescribed treatment to patients and/or parents, as needed.
Demonstrate proficiency in selection and administration of intervention (modalities or exercise) for specific patient needs.
Demonstrates initiative and flexibility by ensuring that all patient care for the section is completed daily.
Demonstrates proficiency in implementation of patient equipment.
Contacts appropriate agencies and schools for physical therapy services as needed.
Directs parents to financial assistance when needed. Arranges for rental/loan equipment as required.
Assumes responsibility for and self-assigns proportionate caseload to equal daily RVU expectations determined by the department given sufficient referrals.

3. Documentation
Completes evaluations and progress notes in acceptable format in the established time frames in accordance to departmental policy.
Enters appropriate patient treatment charges accurately by the end of the day.
Writes home treatment programs, protocols, letters to referring physicians, school reports and special reports as needed.
Provides accurate and thorough documentation for hand-off of care.

4. Professional Development
Participates in the program development, quality improvement, and maintenance functions of the department.
Implements or contributes to new programs, as approved by the supervisor.
Assists in pre-professional training of students, as assigned.
Participates in department research project or case study as available.
Presents two professional in-services yearly to department or outside party (non-ACNW).
Participates in educational development (ie journal club, continuing education courses, advanced degrees or hospital committees).
Completes other duties as assigned.
Will follow all hospital and departmental policies.
As assigned by the supervisor, maintains communications with ACCEs of affiliating schools to schedule internships, discuss student performance and keep records up to date.
As assigned by the supervisor, plans a well-rounded, diverse clinical education experience for each student.
As assigned by the supervisor, mentors students in patient evaluation process and treatment options.
As assigned by the supervisor, mentors staff in assessing student's evaluation and treatment skills.
As assigned by the supervisor, documents specific incidents of student's satisfactory and unsatisfactory performance.
As assigned by the supervisor, assist other staff therapists in developing clinical education skills.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Required - Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - Field of Study: Physical Therapy
Preferred - Doctoral Degree - Field of Study: Doctor of Physical Therapy

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Preferred - 1 years pediatric or acute care experience preferred

CERTIFICATION / LICENSE / REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
Required - Physical Therapy License: (AR) (Candidate must possesss at time of hire)
Preferred - Pediatric Physical Therapy Specialist (Certification)
Preferred - Wound Specialist (Certification)
Preferred - Sports Specialization (PT) (Certification)
Preferred - 3-D Treatment of Scoliosis (cert C1) (Certification)

SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Required - Ability to respond to patient alarms immediately.
Required - Ability to effectively communicate and interact with a variety of clients (patients, parents, medical staff, students, and groups) regardless of social/economic backgrounds.
Required - Ability to remain flexible with schedule and adapt to new situations.
Required - Proven writing and reading skills.
Required - Knowledge of basic computer skills is essential.
