CC038351 ACRI ACNC General Salary Summary: Assists investigators in research projects involving exercise training. Guide research participants including pregnant women, children and families in exercise techniques and exercise training programs. Perform exercise testing of research subjects, e.g., maximal and submaximal aerobic testing, strength testing, etc. Coach group exercise activities. Monitor progress and adjust training programs according to protocols. Perform/assist in measurement of body composition; indirect calorimetry; stable isotope studies of metabolism. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Perform Exercise Training of Research Participants
Set up exercise training programs for various populations in collaboration with principal investigators
Guide research participants, including pregnant women, children and families in exercise techniques and exercise training programs
Monitor progress of research participants and adjust training programs according to protocols.
Perform exercise testing of research subjects, e.g., maximal and submaximal aerobic testing, strength testing.
Lead group exercise activities.
Train and oversee staff to perform exercise training of participants.
Records training data in appropriate data collection forms in a precise and timely manner.

2. Perform Exercise and Other Research Testing
Perform exercise testing of maximal and submaximal aerobic performance, including use of indirect calorimetry, in various populations.
Perform muscle strength testing in various populations.
Perform/assist in measurement of body composition.
Assist in studies using stable isotopes for measurement of substrate metabolism.
Reads, understands and questions protocols to ensure reliable research results.
Conducts testing and experiments carefully and accurately according to supervisor's directions.
Learns, develops and conducts new techniques where appropriate.
Assists in the experimental design and planning of protocols.
Assists in the development of new methods and experimental techniques and procedures.
Records all data in appropriate data collection forms in a precise and timely manner.

3. Equipment and Maintenance Responsibilities
Takes responsibility to learn, operate and maintain exercise equipment to insure that it is operating properly and safely and is kept in good condition.
Learns and properly operates exercise and lab equipment needed to conduct all aspects of the research protocols.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the use and proper care of equipment.
Reads and understands the SDS of any chemical material before using.
Ensures that appropriate personnel working in the physical activity lab are trained properly in the use and maintenance of equipment.
Labels samples and reagents with complete identification information.
Adheres to established internal controls.

4. Miscellaneous and Supervisory Responsibilities
Keeps work areas clean and organized.
Orders replacement reagents and equipment in a timely manner.
Anticipates problems and corrects them and/or notifies the supervisor(s) in a timely manner.
Participates in the evaluation of research results and recommends refinements in scientific protocols used in research.
Analyzes data and assists in the interpretation of results for assigned projects.
Plans time off well in advance around research projects and utilizes the ACH employee system to clock time or time off appropriately before payroll.
Attends seminars and meetings as instructed by the supervisor.
Perform related duties as required. Duties, determined to be within the incumbent's knowledge, skills and abilities, may be assigned by management associated with the position.
Works closely with the supervisor(s) to insure that proper procedures are carried out by various personnel and research fellows in a timely manner to meet time critical deadlines.
Assists in the supervision and evaluation of physical activity lab personnel and research fellows.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Required - Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university - Field of Study: Exercise Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or similar

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Preferred - 1 years Exercise training experience preferred
Preferred - 1 years Physical activity facilities/gyms experience preferred
Preferred - 1 years Research experience preferred

CERTIFICATION / LICENSE / REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS
This position has no Certification/License/Registry requirements

SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Required - Must be able to follow written and oral procedures to carry out training, tests, and experiments, and to document well any changes that occur to the standard protocols.
Required - Experience with computers and software, such as the MS Office products as well as graphics software.
Required - Good organizational, written and verbal skills, as well as the ability to meet target dates and learn new techniques.
Required - Must be able to perform research under specific deadlines.
Preferred - Experience with physiological research preferred.
