- Associate's Degree and/or Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical, physical or biological sciences or related field acceptable to the certifying agency (ASCP) OR Medical Assistant OR Health Science School is required.
- BLS certified within six months of hire or transfer.

- 1-2 years of laboratory experience, physician practice experience or medical facility preferred.

The Laboratory Assistant II performs support duties for efficient laboratory operations.
This position assists with the collection, handling and preparation of specimens for laboratory testing as directed and according to established departmental standards. Duties include verification and labeling of specimens, assisting with training and education of POCT testing personnel, preparing and issuing blood products, review and follow up of daily and monthly reports and maintaining necessary supplies. This positon will also assist in maintaining regulatory compliance in POCT and/or Transfusion Service by maintain databases of information and tracking and trending lab data as applicable.

EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years of laboratory experience or physician practice or medical facility experience preferred. Knowledge of laboratory/hospital information system utilization must be acquired after 3 months on the job training. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.
Must have the ability to distinguish colors. Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
Strict compliance with laboratory Fraud and Abuse policies and requirements is an employment condition.
Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential injury.
This position demands increased amounts of standing, bending and manual manipulation, as well as some light lifting.
