The Monitor Technician Trainee learns to provide support to the patient care delivery team through on-line and in person education, hands on experience and observation of the monitor technicians. Trainees will learn monitoring of the heart rhythms and/or pulse oximetry of patients who are receiving cardiac monitoring. This will require completion of dysrhythmia class in Health Stream. The candidate will work 36 hours a week with a mix of one on one class work, observing in the room and online class work. Monitor Technician Trainees will learn how to maintain alarm parameters and to notify the Registered Nurse of changes in patient cardiac rhythms (as per centralized monitoring policy). The Monitor Technician Trainee will also learn the admission, transfer, and discharge functions for centrally monitored patients. Monitor Technician Trainee will support staff development by learning how to assist in ongoing education throughout the organization. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and patient safety. The work week will also consist of weekly meetings with the supervisor or clinical manager to discuss the following week's goals and plans. QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: BLS certification required.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 6 months patient care experience required Ability to speak and write English Language required. Knowledge of medical terminology required. . Candidates for this position must demonstrate the ability to be flexible, set priorities, solve problems and use good judgment in difficult situations. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 90-120 days from date of hire.
Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. At the end of the Internship the candidate will pass the dysrhythmia test designed to demonstrate proficiency of the role of Monitor Technician and all levels of orientation to Centralized Monitoring. Upon completion of the training and extended orientation the candidate will remain in the position for a minimum of 1 year before being eligible for transfer within the organization. WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position requires considerable sitting, reaching and observing of computer displays, as well as listening and responding to frequent monitor alarms. Requires the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
