Job Description
BAE Systems is currently searching for an engineer with current relevant experience working on the Trident II D5 Strategic Weapon System (SWS) test program, specifically integration testing of SWS subsystems.

Interested candidates should demonstrate familiarity with Systems Engineering, specifically in the areas of system integration, test and evaluation methodologies. Candidates should also have the ability to communicate moderate to complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. The candidate will be expected to apply knowledge of and experience with requirements definition and test engineering principles, as well as have the ability to develop system level test plans and procedures, develop and analyze system/subsystem designs, and evaluate technical reports. Typical test engineering tasks include the following:

  • Developing requirements, test plans and evaluation techniques for new emerging test programs
  • Developing and reviewing documentation (including requirements documents, test plans, schedules, design documentation, software specifications) to support program needs,
  • Establishing requirements traceability and writing test procedures for new test related initiatives
  • Supporting development of data collection and analysis strategies and associated tools
  • Providing on-site test support during test program execution
  • Participating in data collection and analysis
  • Preparing test analysis reports
  • Tracking and resolving problems found during testing
  • Participating in process development and process re-engineering initiatives
  • Participating in research and investigations as well as special studies
  • Lead teams and working groups

Specifically, this position will require participation in commonality studies as well as building and maintaining plan of action, milestones, and schedules for emerging test programs. Tasking includes identification and definition of changes to induce test commonality and develop analysis alternatives for ship weapon system test programs. The candidate is expected to review and modify existing requirement documents or create new test plans and procedures which verify that these requirements satisfy Weapon System performance parameter criteria.

The candidate will be expected to work independently, take responsibility, and have the aptitude to provide insight to system level problems and propose solutions. The selected individual must possess the ability to present technical problems and status to the customer, have a positive attitude and be able to effectively multitask in a fast-paced work environment.

Typical Education & Experience
Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 2 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education
  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited engineering program and two years of relevant experience or six additional years of experience in lieu of a degree
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Experience in mechanical engineering design, fabrication, interface definition, systems integration, and/or requirements verification / system testing
  • Knowledge of Statics, Structures, Structural Stability, and Fluid Dynamics as well as material properties
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of CAD/CAM/3D Modeling
  • Demonstrated experience presenting technical information
  • Ability to work independently in developing creative solutions
  • Ability to work and communicate well with management, customers and other contractors – including clear and concise presentation/demonstration of advanced technical concepts
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with others
  • Demonstrated time management, task tracking, organizational skills, and ability to read, understand, and follow requirements
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Willingness and ability to travel


Preferred Skills and Education
  • 3 – 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Active DoD security clearance
  • Experience with Systems Engineering principles including requirements development, allocation, and analysis
  • Experience developing test procedures for verification of complex systems
  • Working knowledge of Strategic Systems Programs
  • Experience or knowledge of SWS SSBN and/or SWS SSBN (R) submarine platforms
  • Working knowledge of IBM Rational DOORS software
  • Current D-5 TRIDENT SWS Technical / Operational Knowledge
  • Experience working within the SSP Test Program
  • Experience in Simulation, Modeling and Analysis
