Job Description
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Responsibility and Functional Knowledge listed below satisfactorily.
Analyze specifications, setup and operate machine tools, fit and assemble parts, fabricate and/or repair mechanical assemblies, build fixtures and jugs needed to perform specific tasks, own hand tools needed to perform job requirements.
Must be able to follow directions and work with limited supervision. Must be willing to work with and train subordinates.
Must observe all company policies and procedures, including safety rules and OSHA regulations and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
High school and vocational school or associates degree and 5-8 years relevant experience.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and reports. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations before customers, clients, or other employees.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Thorough knowledge to Machine Shop mathematics.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems that may arise in certain situations.
Must be able to tour all vessels, piers, docks, and work sites.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand/walk/use hands to handle or feel/reach with hands and arms/climb or balance/stoop/knell/crouch or crawl/and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Key Responsibilities and Functional Knowledge (Includes the following other duties may be assigned):

Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
Works in shop, on board vessel, on dry dock and off site as required. This can include Jax Ship repair and Mayport facilities.
Sets up and operates machine tools including:

Lathe Summit- 30” swing X 20' c to c
Lathe TOS- 30” swing X 7' c to c
Lathe LaBlond- 20” swing X 10' c to c
Lathe Mazak Quick Turn 35 (CNC)
Lathe Cincinnati
Lathe Birmingham
Lathe Betts Bridgeford 6' swing X 70' c to c
Lathe Andes
VTL Bullard 6' turntable
Horizontal boring mill 6' vertical, 12' horizontal, 6' bar travel
Vertical Mill, Bridgeport Style 36” transverse stroke, 15” fore and aft
Mill, Lagun
Mill, Rockford
Fadal VMC-8030HT CNC vertical machining center
Radial arm drill 4' column clearance X 4' stroke
Do all band saw
Horizontal cut off saw
Rigid bolt machine
25T hydraulic press

Familiarity with CNC and AUTOCAD preferred.
Lifts machined parts and positions and secures on machine or work surface.
Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances and monitors quality and makes adjustments to insure satisfactory work.
Performs minor maintenance on shop equipment and tools.
Grinds cutters, drills, end mills and forms tools consistent with the material being machined.
Must possess thorough understanding of principals of mechanics, tolerances, thermal expansion, and calculations of the same for various materials.
Ability to work any assigned shift and overtime as required.
May be assigned tasks outside craft as required.
Demonstrates effective verbal/written and interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to work in a team environment.
