The security division of the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Department of Public Safety concentrates on the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff within the hospital and on campus. The department provides field officers, Bike and mobile patrol, investigators, and a communication unit for monitoring alarm systems and dispatching officers to service and emergency calls. All officers are required to complete annual training that focuses on health care security.


Overview

Role Purpose

Provides a secure, safe environment for patients, visitors, employees and medical staff. Responsible for ensuring the department is staffed and operated in a manner compatible with the department goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, schedules, and prepares written training materials and presents training and educational programs which includes orientation, continuing education, mandatory training, policy and procedure changes and technology upgrades.
  • Functions as department resource trainer and conducts training needs assessments for security department, as directed, and makes recommendations for training to management.
  • Conducts critical investigations as assigned.
  • Provides continuous security patrols of all areas of the hospital and its parking lots and garages.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
