The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is committed to excellence in surgical care, education and research. The first successful heart transplant in the United States was performed here by Dr. Denton Cooley in 1968, and the program continues to be an international leader in the field of clinical heart and lung transplantation, ventricular assist devices, and in the development of new and innovative technology such as ex vivo lung perfusion. The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is seeking a cardiothoracic surgeon for an assistant professor position within the division of Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support. We are looking for a candidate well-versed in procurement for heart and lung transplantation. The ideal candidate would also have skills related to adult cardiac surgery for participation in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation device insertion, assisting in heart and lung transplantations and mechanical support. Additional opportunities for clinical activity are commensurate with the applicant's level of experience but include the following: critical care management, first assist participation with adult cardiac surgical procedures and independent activity with supervision of related heart and lung failure activities such as temporary support devices, ex vivo perfusion and related aspects of care. Situated in the heart of the world's largest medical center, the program is located at the Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center (BSLMC), which is also home to the Texas Heart Institute.Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will exhibit a commitment to clinical excellence. They should be committed to teaching cardiothoracic surgery residents and advanced fellows. Finally, the candidate should have all UNOS numbers and requirements for procurement and a history of clinical excellence in this regard.
