The Omaha World-Herald is seeking a part-time copy editor who is comfortable working online and in the traditional newspaper setting. Top candidates will have exemplary copy editing and headline writing skills. Versatility is key to this position, and the best candidates will possess a
team-oriented and flexible nature. Hours are from about 4 p.m. to midnight on Thursdays and Fridays with the flexibility to work some weekends, if needed.
Duties for print production:
Edit copy including writing headlines, captions and refers for all stories.
Monitor the local/national wire for breaking news each night.
Update, proof and send pages to prepress when finished.
Assist the copy desk by jumping into rim/slot to help read stories for other sections.
Journalism or related college degree
Experience with InDesign, InCopy and Blox is helpful
A command of copy editing and headline writing, a passion for the news business and a willingness to be part of a busy team that serves a large print and online audience.
