Training to operate newspaper presses
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Adjust black ink settings in accordance with Quality Assurance guidelines.
Adjust color ink settings in accordance with Quality Assurance guidelines.
Lift buckets of ink weighing up to 40 lbs.
Put plates on and remove them from press.
Ability to push rolls weighing up to 2,800 lbs. This duty is needed in emergency situations.
Take waste off rolls of newsprint. Waste can weigh from 1 lb.to 40 lbs.
Maintain Equipment – install blankets.
Pre-run make ready; lead in webs; load reels; clean equipment for next edition.
Replace and adjust ink rollers weighing up to 125 lbs. (four-person duty).
All work is done within a “crew” concept. Duties are assigned to individuals to complete production work.
Identify and correct printing defects.
Report any maintenance problems to Leadperson or Supervisor.
Report causes of web breaks to Leadperson or Supervisor.
Comply with all safety guidelines.

4.Must be able to work long hours, week-ends and holidays.
5.Must have a desire to learn.
6.Must have a mechanical aptitude.
7.Must be able to work independently.
8.Must be able to work well with others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1.High School diploma or GED.
2.1-2 years of production experience, preferably in a newspaper setting
3.Combination of education and experience
