The Food Service Associate is to carry out all assigned duties within the daily scope of the Food Service department including patient tray assembly, serving foods to customers, delivery of food and supplies, and cafeteria sanitation. This includes all areas with the exception of cooking. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.



The Food Service Supply Assistant is responsible for receiving, storage and rotation of food items delivered.  In addition, carries out all assigned duties within the daily scope of the Food Service department including patient tray assembly, serving foods to customers, delivery of food and supplies, and cafeteria sanitation.   This includes all areas with the exception of cooking.  Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.



The Food Service Ambassador introduces room service and explains prescribed diet orders to new admissions, classifies patients as room service or non-select, assists patients with meal ordering at the bedside, delivers patient trays, retrieves patient trays, charts intakes, act as a liaison between nursing and dietary, and is responsible for the ordering and stocking of nourishment rooms.  Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.



The Diet Office Associate is responsible for offering and assisting patients and patient families with meal ordering using the Room Service computer application according to the physician's diet order, answering the Bronson Room Service phone line, offering and assisting with snack orders for all diabetic patients, sending diet brochures and menus to new patients when appropriate, updating and entering patient's diet information in the Room Service computer application, filing dietary requisitions, paging registered dietitians for consults and billing for guest trays.  Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.



Cook III is responsible for the daily food operation in the cook's production area.  These responsibilities include scheduling of employees, ordering food and supply items, receiving and storage of deliveries, organizing the daily responsibilities of cooks and assisting them as necessary.  Responsible for Food Services operations in the absence of the Chef/Manager, this includes organizing, controlling, directing all operations.  Responsible for menu creation, costing, and printing, as needed.  Modifies proper production amounts given the proper recipe and procedure as needed.  Maintains the highest standard of quality and utilization of proper cooking methods.  Maintains correct and proper sanitation procedures.  Maintains department sanitation and customer service standards including communicating with other departments, employees, and visitors.  Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.


Food Service Associate, Food Service Supply Assistant, -


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Must be able to read and understand the English language and follow directions. 
• Must have the ability to be part of a team concept.
Work which is constantly and exceptionally tiring mentally and/or visually.  Conditions exist more than 90% of the work time.
Job definitely requires high levels of strength and/or stamina to regularly lift weights up to 100 pounds and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.
• Responsible for receiving, storage and rotation of food items delivered.
• Prepares patient trays.
• Plates and portions food products.
• Picks up and delivers food carts to assigned areas.
• Delivers food and supplies.
• Performs light and heavy cleaning and sanitation as required.
• Washes dishes, pots and pans, scrapes food trays as required.
• Removes trash as necessary



Diet Office Associate-


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
1 year related experience required.
• Must be able to communicate (verbally and in writing) in English with departmental staff and customers.
• Must have demonstrated organization and communication skills.
• Must be PC oriented.
• Demonstrated telephone and customer service skills necessary.

• Heads and checks patient menus according to the Physician order, diet manual and Clinical Dietitian recommendations.
• Adjusts nourishment request according to the patient's request and diet order.
• Answers incoming calls from patients regarding daily menu and options.
• Tallies menu items daily after orders have been placed so staff can meet product demands.



Cook III


High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required


1 year cooking experience, preferably in a high volume operation with some supervision experience, required


Hospital or institutional cooking experience preferred


2 years management experience or college credits preferred


Successful completion of Serve Safe certification within 1 year of hire


Must be re-certified every 5 years

• Must complete observed competencies demonstrating organizational skills, supervisory skills, and culinary ability

• Required to participate in the operation, take applicable written competency quizzes, and prepare a meal from predetermined ingredients, within 2 hours

• Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English with departmental staff and customers

• Must possess good interpersonal skills that represent Bronson in a positive and professional manner


Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.

• Monitors the proper arrival of foods to maintain daily job requirements

• Through proper communication with cooks, utilize various cooking methods as required by the daily menu plan

• Determines product needs and requisitions and/or orders food for upcoming meals-utilizing established methods

• Follows proper techniques for sanitation as described in the Departmental Sanitation Manual

• Product Identification

• Performs various cooking tasks, including preparing and cooking meats, vegetables, desserts and special dishes

• Ensures that meals are served at scheduled time

• Bakes breads, cakes, cookies and pies-as needed

• Cleans and maintains a variety of kitchen equipment and assigns to Kitchen staff the same   including stoves, refrigerators, work tables, mixers, kettles, utensils and dishwashers

• Performs general housekeeping activities necessary to maintain a clean kitchen and assigns to Kitchen staff the same

• Demonstrates commitment to providing outstanding customer service in a manner that is reflective of our mission, values and customer service standards

• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior

• Maintains a safe workplace by keeping work area free of hazards and correcting and/or properly reporting any safety hazards

• Uses correct body positioning, proper body mechanics to avoid injury, utilizes safe work practices (e.g. pushing vs. pulling, patient transfer/lifting devices etc.) and uses personal protective equipment when necessary – instructs Kitchen staff of the same

• Perform job assignments on an independent basis referring difficult or unusual problems to Management for technical guidance and direction

• Communicates and ensures compliance of policies and procedures to employees

• Responsible for procurement of supplies necessary for smooth operations

• Ensures proper rotation of all product and supplies

• Follows sanitation standards and assists compliance for inspections and audits
