The Assistant Director is uniquely positioned to coordinate and support work across the center, ensuring that it is integrated and communicated well. They are also the center's key contact with communicators across the University, building relationships and coordinating work. In consultation with the executive director of the Swearer Center, the Assistant Director provides focused, strategic, and high-level communications and stewardship support to the Swearer Center as a whole, and is responsible for five key responsibilities: 1) Internal/external marketing and communications strategy; 2) Content development and management; 3) Events planning and oversight; 4) Stewardship and donor relations; 5) Supervision and advising. This position leads Swearer's Communications Team, supervising the Communications Coordinator and several student workers, and collaborating with individuals and teams center-wide.
- A bachelor's degree and 5-7 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated record of leadership and accomplishment in the field of communications, marketing, and/or public affairs.
- Experience in a college or university setting, non-profit service organization, or the private sector related to marketing and public affairs.
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, technical and academic writing skills, and strong interpersonal skills. Ability to elicit and communicate information in a clear, informative and concise manner.
- Ability to provide information in a variety of formats and media to promote the center to various stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a dynamic high-paced setting.
- Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize in a pressured environment.
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time-management skills, plus meticulous attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.
- Experience with event planning.
- Excellent computer skills in word processing, email applications (Google workspace), and spreadsheet/database management (including contact and education management databases such as GivePulse and Salesforce).
- Experience with website maintenance (Drupal), newsletter creation (MailChimp) and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Loomly).
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
- Preferred: Demonstrated skills in web, digital, and print design (including Canva) and audio and video production and storytelling. Photography experience is a plus.
This position involves a flexible work schedule, including occasional evenings and/or weekends and holidays for critical Center events, and involves occasional travel to participate in meetings, conferences, and other related activities. This position is currently hybrid-eligible, meaning that it is permitted up to two days/week remote work (subject to change following the College/University guidance).
