Brown's Office of Financial Strategy & Planning within the Finance Division supports the University's teaching and research mission by providing strategic support across the highest levels of the University including the University Leadership, Central Administration Leadership, and School and Department Leadership. The hybrid-eligible Associate/Assistant Director of Financial Planning and Analysis manages the work of four-five Lead, Senior and/or staff-level Financial Analysts who conduct strategic and quantitative analysis on a wide range of financial strategy, planning, and policy issues. This includes responsibility for the office's relationship with a number of the University's divisions or departments, including conducting objective analyses of the unit's financial performance, developing an in-depth understanding of their financial structure, and reviewing the unit's monthly results, operating budgets, and long-range financial and capital planning.
The Associate/Assistant Director works closely with Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, Director of Budget Planning and Analysis, and AVP of Financial Strategy and Planning to establish priorities to advance the university's financial planning and management and ensure the budget and supporting financial planning processes support the university's missions and priorities. The role supports the central functions of OFSP, including contributing to the development, communication, and management of the university's annual budget and other financial planning processes. The position provides strategic input and technical support to budgeting and financial system development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement, along with training and support. The Associate/Assistant Director manages important special projects on a wide range of financial and strategic initiatives related to their team's portfolios and the University as a whole.
This is a dual-graded position posting. The candidate's qualifications/experience will determine if the position is filled at a grade 11 or grade 12 level.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in business or finance or a related field and/or other professional certifications in business preferred.
- Grade 12 level: 8-12 years of related experience with significant experience at the management level. 6-10 years related experience with Master's degree.
- Grade 11 level: 5-7 years of related experience including significant experience at the professional level.
- Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to management and/or senior leadership.
- Experience with designing and executing strategy-based financial analyses, including scenario modeling.
- Well organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative working style and ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization.
- Strong computing skills; advanced excel, PowerPoint and accounting software.
- Experience working with financial reporting such as profit and loss statements or balance sheets.
- Initiative and ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
