The Clinical Nurse III proactively coordinates care delivery; is an expert preceptor, is able to serve as a charge nurse; acts as a role model; is active professionally and leads in shared governance. Practices as a full partner on the multidisciplinary team. Independently plans, implements, and evaluates patient care and performs related duties as required. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care, assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services, and acts as a patient and family advocate. Demonstrates and models the full range of nursing professional practice in both patient care provided and in development of strategies to improve patient outcomes, satisfaction, and cost effectiveness at the unit level.
Serves as a Charge Nurse and ensure appropriate patient care is provided in a cost effective, quality driven and patient focused manner OR functions as an RN Resource Nurse for the facility.
Serves on teams and leads teams as a part of daily practice.
Serves as a role model for the unit in incorporating national and organizational goals to improve quality, patient safety and satisfaction.
Models effective and compassionate communication skills and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to physicians and other colleagues; effectively utilizes AIDET and SBAR communication methods.
If applicable, participates in at least one (1) or more specialty role that is not required of all registered nurses on the unit.
Supports continuous learning on the unit by sharing research material from professional journals and/or organizations.
Identifies opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement.
Applies evidence-based practice as a regular aspect of professional practice.
Ensures improvements in the practice setting by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning.
Facilitates unit-based education and in-services
Serves in the role of preceptor for student nurses, nurse interns, new graduate and experienced nurses OR functions as an RN Resource Nurse for the facility.
Models keen cultural intelligence including preventing and addressing workplace horizontal violence and impairment.
Serves as a unit-based champion (e.g., diabetes, falls, wound, CAUTI, CLABSI, SSI, HCAHPS, IT, etc.); completes unit-based audits and provides data to management for follow-up with staff to achieve positive outcomes.
· ADN or Diploma (plus five (5) years of recent acute care experience
· BSN required (plus at least three (3) years of recent acute care experience)
· BLS required and ACLS if applicable
· Certifications for Nursing Specialty, if applicable (see Addendum)
· National Certification
· Demonstrated competence in a Clinical Nurse II role or meets experience requirements upon hire.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
