What these PM's will be doing

  • Each PM will be responsible for migrating a number of applications (~20-30) from custom hosting environment into a Barclays standard environment. The current hosting environment could be a traditional physical server hosting environment, VMware or OpenStack environment. The target environment could be VMware (85%) of all migrations will go to VMware), OpenShift (5%) or Amazon (AWS) (10%).
  • The vast majority of migrations will be executed as a re-deployment of the application (i.e. no lift-and-shift) where the application deployment pipelines (Jenkins, Chef) will be redeveloped to deploy the application into the new hosting environment.
  • Each application will have an Application Owner who will be accountable for migration of their specific application. The PM will oversee multiple application owners ensuring that: specific migration plans are developed and migration plans are executed on schedule.
  • PM's will be responsible for:
  • Tracking every application by standard milestones
  • Reporting status weekly to overall program leadership
  • Track assumptions, dependencies and risk with RAG status across the group of applications the PM is managing
  • Manage escalations when issues are not resolved
  • Ensure that Application owners are including critical steps in their plans (current state/future state architectures, design reviews, DR testing, roll-back procedures, etc.)
  • Check and challenge plans, decisions, assumptions, dependencies and risks

Qualifications

· Technical Project Management experience (6-8 years of PM experience)

· Ability to work within a high-pressure situation where escalations can be frequent to ensure program continues on track

· Self-starter – PM's should be able to think on their feet and make decisions to keep projects on track; when issues arise, the PM's should make an effort to try and address via escalation or discussions with appropriate colleagues and recognize when their own efforts are not enough so that they need to escalate to Sr. leadership for support.

· Willingness to roll up their sleeves to keep a project on track. For example, the PM's are expected to work directly with application owners to address any blockers. From time to time, the PM may need to order infrastructure services, setup meetings, assist with development of migration plans, etc. to assist an app owner to stay on track.

· Willingness to be flexible in their working times with respect to having to work with some leads where off-hours work to align with working hours may be required. While we are not forecasting a lot of weekend work, there may be deployments that are executed on the weekends and may require some PM support for those deployments.

· Understanding of application deployments tools and processes (DevOps)

· Understanding of underlying hosting platforms including VMware

· General understanding if infrastructure concepts and technologies; networking, storage (SAN, NAS), middleware, monitoring, etc.

· Understanding of basic networking concepts (security zones, firewalls, load balancers, etc.0

· Understanding of basic application architectures (3 tier apps, messaging, etc.)

· Understanding of basic disaster recovery planning and execution methods

· Understanding of Operational environments (Change Management, Monitoring, Maintenance, etc.) and the critical components that have to be delivered with applications to ensure Ops teams can support them post migration

· General understanding of security in data center environments and experience in working with Security teams to gain approvals or request deviations to compliance, etc.
