Assists in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen dissection and gross description. Will assist with Fine needle aspirates and prepare smears for review by pathologists in the Radiology Department. Assists pathologists in the diagnosis of human disease. Provides technical, administrative, and educational assistance to members of the lab and other departments. Assists pathologists and residents in performing post mortem examinations in hospital morgue. Maintains morgue rooms and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Assists in the research goals and objectives of the Department. Committed to continuous quality improvement, and excellent patient care. Performs frozen section preparation to include rotation of off hours and weekend rotation. Responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc.
Requirements: Bachelor s Degree in Science. Certified Pathology Assistant preferred. Experience Grossing surgical pathology cases is highly desirable. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with Pathologists and Residents in a surgery-like environment essential. Cleaning solutions, electric bandsaw, stryker saw, scales, stretcher, suction-evacuator, surgical tools and preservative solution.
