The Opportunity

The Counsel in this role will be responsible for providing support and advice to team members of Cornerstone Brands, Inc.  and affiliates (“CBI”), bearing responsibility for coordination and provision of various legal services including, without limitation, Intellectual Property, Commercial Co-Ventures, and Contracts (e.g., direct/merch contracts and indirect contracts, real estate, etc.).  The person in this role will also perform duties with latitude for independent judgment according to company policy and the law, along with partnership from other Qurate Retail Group legal team members as needed, Performs the following duties, without limitation:

  • Providing advice on legal issues to leadership
  • Handling legal matters related to area of responsibility
  • Identifies potential legal issues related to business practices and policies and advises leadership
  • Drafts and negotiates contracts and other documents

Your Impact

  • Drafts and negotiates (or supervises outside counsel as appropriate) agreements, memoranda, guidelines, and other documents
  • Provides comprehensive and timely legal input and advice to clients in connection with new initiatives related to CBI's strategic activities and objectives
  • Delivers timely and high-quality completion of legal projects across all areas of law including major initiatives
  • Works with and coordinates with other QRG attorneys to leverage learnings and established legal processes at CBI
  • Carries out Legal Department management initiatives as applicable to responsibilities/assigned areas

What you Bring

  • 5+ years of relevant experience at a law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • 7+ years of experience preferred
  • Undergraduate and Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
  • Any required in-house license prior to start date
  • Good draftsman, analyst, negotiator, and presenter of legal points; draft routine documents and negotiate routine matters unaided
  • Handles routine tasks with minimal supervision but collaborates with direct leader for more substantive matters
  • Provides creative and innovative approach to conceptualizing ideas and problem solving
  • Performs basic responsibilities of a full-service in-house counsel, acting with certain levels of internal and external counsel
  • Reliably counsels all decision-making clients
  • Translates legal opinion to business objectives
  • Well-respected and seen as trusted advisor by clients
  • Possesses general knowledge of CBI corporate direction and strategic business values
  • Possesses ability to interpret and apply concepts based on law, case law, company policy and procedure
  • Demonstrates ability to formulate legal opinions and strategies on assigned matters
  • Able to convey detailed, important, complex information to others accurately
  • Available to travel to various locations to participate in, meetings trials, arbitrations, or other legal proceedings
  • Demonstrates ability to research and evaluate information from a variety of documents, including reports, law books, journals, and on-line data systems
