Sr Lead Systems Engineers are the technical experts and have a passion to build.  They work with product managers, and project manager to translate product visions, business cases, and user experiences into technical requirements, scope development effort, and execute against the prioritized product roadmaps. Leads are responsible for the overall design, and quality of the code.  They also ensure their teams have the tools they need to be successful. They work with application, and system architects for their projects, and collaborate on cross team designs to ensure a unified platform that scales and supports company growth.

Key Accountabilities


  • Leads the technical team in medium, and large size projects

  • Works with Architects on project analysis, design, and system documentation

  • Manages technical project schedules

  • Determines resource staffing needs

Cross Functional Partnership:

  • Oversees task assignments to project resources, both near, and offshore

  • Works closely with Product Managers to assess technical requirements of new projects

  • Oversees coding, debugging and documentation

  • Supports the Quality Assurance group in developing test plans and test scripts


  • Communicates status and completion of all development, and configurations tasks

  • Obtains release management, and architectural approval for the implementation of system releases to their planned environments

  • Supports the Change Request (CR) process, including getting approval signatures for work items

Critical Skills:

  • Demonstrates expert level knowledge and deep understanding in their area of specialization.

  • Strong understanding of the architecture guardrails and reference architectures, and factors this into design decisions and recommendations. 

  • Assesses changes to business solutions, in terms of their costs and benefits to the business, and their broader impact on QRG. 

  • Utilizes thorough business knowledge to understand desired business outcomes and how changes to current technology supports and affects the business.

  • Possesses solid understanding of the retail industry and industry trends

  • Understands the impacts of regulations, laws and company policies, standards and procedures to their role

  • Works on complex and unique projects and problems of varied scope, typically in a single domain.

  • Work with engineering teams to drive resolution of escalated issues requiring the analysis of multiple solutions.

  • Leverages internal networks and shares knowledge effectively with other team members across multiple teams within Technology organization.

  • Works directly with product owners and is seen as a SME within IT; proactively manages client expectations and ensures prompt and complete client service.

  • Partners with Engineers & Product Managers to design and deliver business capabilities & solutions. Assists in the analysis of vendor proposals and the evaluation of build versus buy considerations.

  • Leads the development for a project and provides day-to-day technical leadership/ guidance to the development team.

Minimum EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science or related fields, or equivalent work experience

Minimum Experience: 5+ years of software development experience

Preferred Experience:  5+ years of Web, E-Commerce, or Retail equivalent business
