The Medical Assistant/Certified Medical Assistant/Ophthalmic Assistant I, assist the Ophthalmologist and Optometrists in performing a wide range of both basic and advanced Ophthalmic testing. Tests frequently performed by assistant: Basic Vision Screening, Lemsometry, Auto Refraction, Color Tests and visual Fields.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Medical Assistants/Certified Medical Assistants must possess a MA Diploma or MA Certification. State or Federal CMA certification preferred from one of the following agencies: 1) California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA), 2) American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), 3) American Medical Technologists (AMT), 4) National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or in the State of California, Multiskilled Medical Certification Institute (MMCI), 5) National Healthcare Association (NHA)-also known as Certified Clinical Medical Assistants (CCMA), and 6) National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). For MA/CMA no experience is required. For OAI, applicant must have 1 year working as an OA or MA/CMA in an Ophthalmology Department. Current BLS (AHA) certification required.
