Master Thesis @ Ericsson Radio Link Product Development
As a master thesis worker, you will be a part of the Radio Link hardware product development team focusing on developing and maintaining Ericsson's cutting-edge microwave transport products. Based on thesis scope you will get the opportunity of exciting product development and drive activities such as requirement analysis, design, simulation, integration and verification. We will further offer you opportunities in competence development and gain personal growth as well as get an insight in the great opportunities that Ericsson can offer.
Master Thesis Project Description
Low phase noise oscillators are needed in more complex future Radio-Link E-band (71-86 GHz) products. Today phase noise may be considered as a bottleneck for higher frame formats at higher frequencies and interacting products such as XPIC (Cross Polarization Interference Cancellation) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems. To create a low phase noise oscillator, a reflection amplifier can be integrated with a frequency adjustable resonator cavity. To enable a wide tuning range, low noise and small footprint, a custom MMIC (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) reflection amplifier needs to be designed with many components integrated on-chip.
The thesis work is currently seen to include:
Design and simulation of a 11.5-14.5 GHz MMIC reflection amplifier with integrated phase shifter, resonator matching, buffer amplifier and frequency divider.
Preparing the MMIC to be manufactured at the end of the thesis.
Electromagnetic simulations of coupling between amplifier and cavity resonator to inform amplifier design.
Results are to be summarized in Master Thesis report.
Studying Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or similar.
Experience in MMIC design and electric field theory is strongly preferred.
Experience using electromagnetic simulation tools (such as HFSS, ADS) is seen as a merit.
Curious and solution-oriented personality.
Good communications skills (English).
All master program courses are preferably finished before start of thesis work.
Based on the scope this thesis is recommended to be carried out in pairs.
The work should be done in close cooperation with Ericsson AB and follow applicable company standards.
If you feel interested, please send in your application as soon as possible. The start date can be adjusted to both your and the business needs – the intention is to start in January 2020.
While applying please attach your updated CV, current grades and cover letter written in English into one document (under CV field in the application tool) and clearly define your technical knowledge.
