Job Description:

The Department

Strategic Advisers, LLC. (SA) is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity's retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 25 years, SA has specialized in building asset allocation solutions, as well as crafting methodologies for many of Fidelity's investment planning tools to help investors reach their financial goals. With over $300 billion in assets under management, the SA team of investment professionals builds and maintains asset allocation portfolios for over one million customer accounts. As part of SA, the Private Wealth Management Investment Team is focused exclusively on providing investment solutions for Fidelity's highest net worth clients.

The Role

Fidelity's Private Wealth Management team provides personalized wealth management advice, planning and investment management to high-net-worth clients. The offering has evolved into a successful wealth management capability with demonstrated success in retaining and developing Fidelity's largest and most complex clients who seek more personalized investment solutions. You will lead SA's most creative and sophisticated investment solution to solve complex investment needs for our clients using customized asset allocation and asset location strategies.

As a member of this team, you will collaborate with a team of experienced wealth managers to build tailored investment solutions that integrate with a variety of sophisticated wealth management capabilities. The portfolios you'll be responsible for will range in size from $2 million to potentially $150 million, with combined total managed assets ranging from $4 - $10 billion. As part of playing a role in SA's next generation of managed account strategies, you will be required to act as an investment leader with a point of view on new investment concepts within Fidelity.

Primary Responsibilities

Trade Execution

  • Execute daily multi-asset trading activities across individual client portfolios
  • Monitor current events and gauge market reactions
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal trading partners

  • Manage individual client portfolios utilizing complex portfolio construction techniques that involve the coordination of asset allocation, asset location and broad vehicle selection across a range of equity and fixed income asset classes.
  • Develop a deep understanding of internal analyst and portfolio manager research on individual securities, ETFs, mutual funds, portfolio construction, and business cycle positioning in order to achieve superior pre- and after-tax returns consistent with the SA investment philosophy while helping to define the future of the broader investment philosophy and process for the strategy.
  • Drive the concept of “investment planning” by integrating a client's financial plan with their investment plan in order to create highly personalized portfolios for the client through dedicated portfolio construction strategies, incorporating the impacts of estate planning, large quantities of legacy investments, complex compensation plans, highly customized liquidity needs, and complex registration types such as partnerships, corporations, LLCs and a full range of trusts.
  • Mastery of portfolio construction and investment analytic software to efficiently implement complex portfolio construction across multi account registrations types while being able to decipher and clearly understand the impacts on investment risk and return characteristics.
  • Participate in helping to generate and provide new ideas for future technical design requirements to further drive the scale and efficiency of the investment platform.

  • Graduate degree preferred; degree or emphasis in finance/accounting/economics subjects strongly preferred.
  • Existing or progress toward CFA, CPA, or CFP credential.
  • Validated experience in a direct client facing role, preferably with High Net Worth clients.
  • 5+ years of meaningful investment experience in research, portfolio management, or trading. Experience with SMA/UMA/UMH investment management a plus.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to operate in a demanding environment with an adaptable skill set, creative problem solving skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • A high level of interpersonal skills with an “Executive” presence that has a balance of substance, style, and confidence
  • Excellent attention to detail, as well as great analytical skills that allow for independent judgment and conclusive reasoning while dealing with significant time constraints
  • Solid understanding of quantitative portfolio construction techniques in a taxable, private wealth environment
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of wealth management strategies involving financial and estate planning
  • Ability to work effectively on a collaborative team with a strong spirit of innovation, maintaining comfort in undefined environments
