Ride Engineer - Locations El Cajon, CA, Scotts Valley, CA, or Braselton, GA

Position Overview

The Ride Engineer is responsible for leading tuning events with OE customers and after market projects. Responsibilities also cover working with the other members of the PVG Ride Engineering Team to further develop and improve Fox tuning strategies, including development of data driven tuning and subjective evaluation. This position requires experience from vehicle dynamics attribute development, data analysis, and test method development. The Ride Engineer will be a part of the Ride Engineering Team in a matrixed organization working with cross-functional teams and customers. This individual is responsible for both the best possible customer ride experience and  developing the process and technology to get there using an engineering approach.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead or support efforts to develop/improve test and tuning processes, procedures, supporting tools, and documentation
  • Lead internal or external automotive truck or powersport tuning events
  • Work with the Advanced Technologies Team to develop next generation suspension products and related processes including semi active suspension products
  • Rebuild and revalve shocks as needed
  • Perform detailed engineering calculations and analysis
  • Generate new shock absorber/suspension concepts to advance technology portfolio
  • Lead or participate in creative brainstorming sessions to solve technical challenges
  • Analyze quality issues to determine root cause and implement corrective actions
  • Analyze lab and field test results and provide action plans
  • Gather/analyze application data from lab and vehicle testing to support testing/tuning
  • Define test methods, pass/fail criteria and create DVP (Design Verification Plans) documentation
  • Manage >10 projects simultaneously with minimal oversight
  • Coordinate and execute platform/application DVPs
  • Evaluate vehicles, sign off shock tunes, and release related documentation
  • Train, mentor, and share experience with teams in multiple locations


  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Vehicle Dynamics, or related field of study.
  • 5+ years of shock tuning or vehicle dynamics experience, or both.
  • Expert tuning knowledge and understanding of the relation between chassis components, shocks, and vehicle dynamics
  • Expert in subjective ride, handling and steering evaluation and evaluation systems
  • Expert knowledge of shock fundamentals, concepts, and performance
  • Deep understanding of shock dynos and interpretation of dyno data
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in data acquisition systems and analysis software
  • Experience from objective ride, handling and steering evaluation
  • Understanding of algorithm tuning
  • OE or Racing shock tuning experience
  • Excellent work ethics and team work skills
  • Hands on and self motivated

Preferred Qualifications

  • Powersport, racing, off-road and/or suspension enthusiast
  • MATLAB, scripting and data analysis experience
  • Experience from advanced vehicle operation

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

Office/Test Lab Environment

Ability to sit for long periods of time

Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer

May lift up to 50 lbs. 

Requires walking, standing, bending and lifting for long periods of time
