Are you a passionate merchant who has a balance of creativity and financial acumen, and wants to join the exciting world of quality home furniture and décor?  Merchandising at Frontgate is the hub for setting the course for our brands' product and ensures all teams are moving together to deliver a proprietary, curated, compelling and profitable assortment.  Working in partnership with our design, planning, sourcing, e-comm and creative teams, merchants bridge the strategy and creative direction of their product category (s).  The merchants utilize a blend of analytical ability and creative thinking to deliver an assortment that stays true to our brand, and both inspires and exceeds customer expectations while delivering financial results.

As a Merchant at Frontgate with a customer first approach, you will be responsible for providing a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Through intimate understanding of the customer, detailed knowledge of the brand and results, competitive intelligence, and constant awareness of both macro and market trends, the Merchant has the critical ability to develop that knowledge into actionable business strategies and seasonal assortment plans to achieve financial objectives for one or more categories.  The successful candidate will merchandise across multiple channels to maximize sales, margins and inventory turnover while promoting brand image and product quality.

Duties

  • Creates and Drives the assortment strategy by making and influencing decisions at every stage of the product lifecycle; from concept to execution; initial line plan to product development, planning and pricing, product placement and driving sales. Partners with the Merchant Director or Senior Merchant to develop and implement business strategies that maximize sales, margins and inventory productivity. Establish and execute category specific Assortment Architecture through Seasonal Assortment plans.
  • In partnership with design and sourcing, initiates and develops a unique, proprietary and focused product assortment that delivers on quality, improves productivity, has strong price/value relationship, and delivers on financial goals.
  • Partners with Planning to align on final assortment, create inventory plans that will maximize key areas of the business and achieves the financial targets of the category and total brand. Together, planning and merchants drive in season results, maximizing opportunities  while mitigating risk.
  • Develops market intelligence with a focus on business opportunities for their category.  Completes seasonal competitive analysis and presents learnings and opportunities to merchant leadership.
  • In depth and critical analysis of the business post season (hindsight) and in-season to drive current and effect future business opportunities. Weekly business analysis and reporting.
  • Responsible for driving cross-functional communication and motivating the team to be customer-focused, curious, and collaborative in their work to achieved a unified vision of the category and business goals.
  • Adheres to corporate calendar and accountable for achieving deliverables accurately and on time.
  • Contribute to a culture that embraces passion, innovation, impact, opportunity and fun!
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of how to maximize business strategies across channels.
  • Works collaboratively with the planning team to develop buy plans to insure timely product delivery.
  • Sources new products globally through new and existing vendors, sourcing trips, trade shows.
  • In partnership with Sourcing, conducts effective and innovative negotiations with vendors to establish the most competitive pricing including terms, freight, and return policies.
  • Collaborates and partners with entire merchant team on cohesive seasonal looks and assortments, while driving key businesses and items. Collaborates with entire merchant team on paginating our key marketing tool while partnering with our Creative team to drive innovation in the visual presentation.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of team's approvals, including assortment turnover, accuracy of images, retails, product copy and details.
  • Travel both domestic and international.
  • Coach, mentor, teach and manage team development and career growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years Merchandising or Buying experience, preferably in a vertically integrated retailer, with demonstrable success in product creativity and financial results.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Merchandising, Marketing or related field.
  • High taste level, knowledge and passion for the home accessories market.
  • An acute eye for product, trend, and a curiosity to know more about the marketplace and the customer.
  • A strong understanding of sales analysis and financial metrics that relate to your business.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • A collaborative approach to working cross-functionally to achieve the vision and financial results.
  • Strong presentation and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Experience in leading others.
  • Ability to think pro-actively, is resourceful and persistent.
  • Ability to be self-directed and manage multiple priorities simultaneously within tight deadlines..
  • Ability to function and be agile in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
