In June of 2018, GAF embarked on its Agility journey toward being a more nimble, adaptable organization. The first 12 months of this journey were about exploring what worked for the organization, and what didn't. We had some major successes launching products to market using an agile way of working and also led to several high impact internal projects to streamline and remove bureaucracy. We have been coaching-in the Scrum framework across the organization and as we get good at that, we also plan to coach-in other frameworks such as Kanban, Lean Construction, and Design Thinking.
We are now in our second year of the journey and have begun to accelerate our work. The Agile Journey Office is structured around four value propositions: 1) Accelerating teams; 2) Building Capabilities; 3) Removing bureaucracy, and 4) Driving Reach & Relevance. The purpose of the Director of Agility role will be to lead the work around our Reach & Relevance. Reach & Relevance encompasses the setting up and nurturing of our Guilds (e.g., Scrum Master, Product Owner), our change ambassadors, and our transformation leaders across the company. It will also help to coordinate our change management and progress tracking work with the help of two agility analysts that are on the team. It is one of the most visible roles in the transformation.
The Director of Agility will be a leadership role working closely with our two analysts on change management and measurement/tracking. Together with the VP of Business Optimization, this role will lead GAF's agility journey, helping to translate the vision of the Executive Leadership Team into an impact on the ground.
50% Leads the creation and nurturing of agile communities of practice across the organization in an effort to further embed and accelerate the change journey. This work includes:
Chartering enterprise guilds and working to integrate existing functional guilds of Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Ambassadors
Managing the induction of new members, including newly minted Scrum Masters or Product Owners
Driving a standard change management approach and alignment across any on-going transformation programs in the organization
Managing the enterprise ambassador program including revamping the value proposition and structure and coordinating on-boarding/off-boarding of ambassadors with functional leaders
50% Provide thought leadership and regular coaching to two agility analysts who are responsible for change management and measurement/metrics. Ensuring that there is a robust communication strategy around the transformation and that there are a comprehensive assessment and measurement of progress. Duties include:
Helping analysts define and achieve their quarterly goals
Conducting regular problem solving with analysts
Leading alignment and coordination with other functional departments around change management and tracking, especially Communications and HR

Technical knowledge/skills (advanced)
Transformation or PMO leadership experience required
Certification in some type of project management, Agility, or Lean frameworks preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PPT) and Google Suite (Slides, Sheets, Docs)
General knowledge/skills (entry, intermediate, advanced)
Ability to quickly think ‘on the fly' and provide direction in unclear environments
Ability to influence without power
Great team player and problem solver
Bachelors Degree Required; Advanced degree preferred (MA, MBA)
The ideal candidate for this role must have 10+ years of industry experience and could come from any background (e.g., Operations/Ops Support, Sales/Sales Support, or Business Support Functions), but should bring with them experience being in transformation leadership roles
