Oversees daily production operations, coach and develop hourly employees, identify and implement optimization projects. Provide the leadership that ensures all employees on shift can improve and sustain a zero-loss work culture that drives out injuries/incidents and ensures products are safe and meet quality requirements and specifications. Manage all aspects of shift plant operation ensuring budget, output, and continuous improvement by engaging all employees.

  • Manage production and ensure that plant productivity, quality, and safety standards are met.
  • Maintain and improve the plant safety program to ensure the safety of all employees and products.
  • Utilizes CI tools, drives zero losses and upholds the culture of HGO non-negotiables.
  • Coordinate production within budget parameters.
  • Ensure all plant employees are responsible and accountable to maintain HGO GMP and site standards which include FDA, USDA, and SQF Level 3.
  • Ensure product quality and food safety by ensuring plant employee's sustains quality systems (HACCP, SQF, SOP, SSOP, MSS, GMPs).
  • Participates in safety and food safety activities including internal safety audits, HACCP team, internal audits, GMP audits, food defense team, food safety team and crisis management team.
  • Schedule and coordinate shifts and employee' work schedules.
  • Conduct audits to ensure employees are performing tasks according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform inventory checks and sampling.
  • Ensure troubleshooting capabilities are developed with all operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Work with maintenance department in developing preventive maintenance schedules and make decisions regarding emergency maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to production schedule.
  • Conduct employee meetings, supervise production workforce and assist in employment resolution.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in verbal and written communication and in behavior.
  • Complete Team Leader Standard work lists and task each shift.
  • Ensure equipment is operated according to centerline control and reporting process.
  • Report out on plant performance as part of daily review and staff meetings.
  • Perform hourly employee review process and provide feedback periodically on performance, including disciplinary and attendance occurrences.
  • Provide performance coaching to and development of hourly employees.
  • Contributes to the development of effective employee training programs, including areas of GMP's and safety awareness. Conducts training and promotes continuous learning of staff resulting in a flexible and agile workforce.
  • Assigns specific duties to personnel, conduct investigations or research, write technical, informative or operational reports, work on special projects, attend and conduct meetings as required.
  • Review reports, papers, and other records prepared by personnel for clarity, completeness, accuracy, and conformance with company policies. Route approved reports and records to appropriate personnel. Participates is safety activities including the safety committee.
  • Spend 90 percent of time working with employees on the production floor and 10 percent of the time on admin and reports.
  • Other duties, responsibilities and/or tasks as assigned.
  • Must be a proactive team player. Will have continuous contact primarily with employees at entry levels of the organization as well as some external contacts. Must be able to function effectively as a leader or member in a team environment; able to translate concepts into concrete examples.
  • Strong technical knowledge covering a wide range of food processing equipment. Good understanding of SPC and associated tools. Proficient in knowledge of SQF, quality standards, and requirements. Must possess the ability to analyze trends and determine corrective actions.
  • Must be a self-starter; demonstrated ability to produce on schedule; act in a constructive manner; strongly motivated to improve self, production department. Demonstrated leadership ability through discovering and utilizing people's capabilities, recognizing good work and earning the respect of peers and subordinates.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English. (Without an interpreter)
  • Ability to operate a forklift and scissor lift.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for educational requirement.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a food plant environment in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience leading Continuous Improvement Teams and Lean Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Able to lift 55 pounds repeatedly.
  • Ability to climb ladders.
  • Prolonged standing and repetitive bending.
  • Must be willing to work weekends as necessary.
  • Able to work at a desk for extended periods of time doing analytical work or preparing reports on a computer.
  • On call 24 hours a day for emergency situations.
  • Ability to travel (15%) for work.
  • Mostly inside an industrial food grade facility.
  • Smocks and hairnets (beard net if necessary) are required within the facility.
  • Occasional outside work is necessary.
  • There is a moderate level of noise while the plant is in production.
  • Regularly involves listening or talking, standing and walking for extended period of time.
