SUMMARY Provide radiation therapy treatments and function as an essential member of the radiation oncology treatment team, in order to provide total quality care to patients. Reports to Manager of Radiation Oncology. Must be a graduate of an accredited radiation therapy program, a registered Radiation Therapist by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT), and certified by the Texas Department of Health as a Medical Radiological Technologist (MRT) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Demonstrates comptentency and leadership in delivering a planned course of radiation therapy accurately and safely. Uses appropriate machine settings to deliver treatment while monitoring the patient visually and aurally during treatment. Monitors and consoles during treatment. Takes appropriate verification images. Checks treatment plan and calculations prior to initial treatment. 2. Ensures all daily treatment information is documented accurately, legibly, and completely and monitors daily doses to ensure that treatment does not exceed prescribed dose or normal tissue tolerance. 3. Assessments of the patient`s condition, needs, and side effects are made on a daily basis throughout the treatment course. Assesses the patient`s need for information and reassurance. Takes appropriate action to patient`s needs. 4. Recognizes the patient`s need for referral to other care providers such as social services, clergy or nutritionist. 5. Selects appropriate immobilization and positioning aides for simulation and treatment. Fabricates immobilization devices and custom blocks. 6. Uses appropriate professional judgment to contact Radiation Oncologist regarding side effects, problem situations or when to withhold treatment until a physician is notified. 7. Verifies the patient has given written consent to procedures. Provides accurate explanations and instructions to the patient, at an appropriate time and level the patient can understand. Addresses and documents patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure when appropriate. Is knowledgeable to provide instruction on proper skin care, diet and self-care procedures when needed. 8. Observes Quality Assurance standards by complying with the following: warm up and tests equipment following established procedures; reviews patient treatment information prior to initiation of procedures on a daily basis; observes environment for any potential radiation hazards. 9. Promotes a positive, collaborative atmosphere with all members of the health care team, patient and family members. Communicates and conducts self in a professional and courteous manner. Serves as a role model to other Radiation Therapists demonstrating leader qualities by exhibiting superior knowledge and skills. Demonstrates flexibility in providing services as outlined by the hospital`s Service Plus Program. 10. Demonstrates initiative in ensuring all aspects of the patient`s treatment are addressed. 11. Provides annual educational inservice to technical staff. 12. Demonstrates the componets of the ICARE values statement. 13. Demonstrates SERVICE PRIDE standards. 14. Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor hazards. 15. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Graduate of an accredited Radiation Therapy Program EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 3 years work experience as a licensed Radiation Therapy Technologist (RTT). Clinical judgment and knowledge of radiation therapy theory, practices and safety. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technology in Radiation Therapy Licensed by the Texas Dept. of Health as a Medical Radiological Technologist. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED N/A
