Job Title: Lab Assistant

Location: On-Site; Coralville, Iowa

Shift(s): IDT Coralville operates 24/7 with openings across our shifts!

What does a Lab Assistant do?

Every Lab Assistant performs preparatory work and general laboratory upkeep. This is a hands-on support position to the Technician I and Technician IIs. This position will not handle product directly. 

Job Specific Essential Functions:

  • Performs lab cleaning, such as: surface & equipment decontamination, washing glassware, etc.

  • Stores and organizes lab equipment.

  • Prepares tubes, plates and other labware for use by Technician I and IIs

  • Maintains electronic records of tasks performed

  • Performs basic administrative tasks

  • Performs necessary safety, emergency, and cleaning procedures.

  • Crushes glass when necessary

  • Applies proper expiration dating to chemical reagent/cleaning labels

  • Performs tasks according to the outlined schedule/within the given time period

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

Skills:

  • Basic Microsoft Office/computer literacy required

  • Ability to measure and handle materials in safe and accurate manner 

  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.  

  • Ability to organize and maintains information.

Physical Requirements:

Exert 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10-15 lbs. of force frequently

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • Adheres to safety regulations, lab SOPs, contamination controls, and quality control requirements

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; lab coat and gloves)
