Senior Teleport Technician

Your role in helping us shape the future:

As a key member of our Technician team in the Castle Rock, CO Teleport, you will ensure communications equipment operates properly and delivers the highest standard service to our customers. 

In the role of Senior Technician in a 24/7 Teleport you can showcase your strong technical skills and know-how to perform complex routine on-site installation and repair of equipment as well as preventive maintenance. As you are proficient to the various competencies of the job, you will have the opportunity to act as mentor to junior team members. 

Are you up to the challenge?

  • You perform moderately complex troubleshooting and quick restoral of services
  • You may lead preventative/periodic maintenance checks of ground station equipment and associated sub-systems.  You validate recordings, review for any anomalies and take the appropriate action to correct. 
  • You play a senior role in providing Level 1 maintenance, which includes troubleshooting/fault isolation, replacement of major assemblies and sub-assemblies as well as performing basic alignment procedures. 
  • Responsible for emergency restoration of all ground station equipment, as applicable: up converters, down converters, HPA's, IFL fiber optic subsystems, LNA/LNB's, antennas. 
  • You respond professionally and timely to service requests from Teleport Operations. Center (TOC) and Colo-customers as part of Intelsat escalation procedures.
  • You possess the necessary job knowledge to train other technicians on operational and maintenance procedures, as well as technical training of either specific ground station equipment or Intelsat product and services.
  • You play a key role in the development or enhancement of operational and maintenance procedures. 
  • May lead the implementation of new services to include: racking and stacking of equipment, cable fabrication and testing, documentation generation and updating. 

Can you drive these processes?

You will monitor the conditions of commercial services and terrestrial facilities, including the status of system alarms, station plant and facility subsystems while working with state-of-the-art monitoring systems and test equipment. Will support the following equipment as directed by other Operational Centers; IP and Baseband equipment (modems, multiplexers, DVB and Broadband technology platforms) and video systems. You identify inefficient operations processes and unreliable equipment, or sub-systems that affect the ability to provide service reliability and customer service and may make recommendations to address these issues. You will prepare and review documentation, reports and updates for any service status change, maintenance and fault/repair/restoral.

You should definitely have:

  • Vocational training or equivalent technical education, ideally in the field of Electronic Communications.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to work in a 24x7 shift environment (days/nights) and be available for on-call/call-in responsibilities.
  • Good working knowledge of Satellite Earth Station technologies relating to Teleport Operations.
  • Good working knowledge of ancillary plant systems such as HVAC, UPS, electrical switchgear and generating systems.
  • Capable of working on various ground station communications systems, performs replacement of major assemblies and sub-assemblies. 
  • Solid understanding and knowledge of RF theory and basic electronics, antenna drive-systems, high power amplifiers, Up/Down converters, fiber optic sub-systems, baseband equipment consisting of modems, multiplexers, broadband, IP technologies and video technologies/systems.
  • Good working knowledge of the use of standard test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, power meters, synthesized generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, bit error rate test sets.
  • Capable to apply proper methods of testing equipment and RF/IF systems chains and has the proven ability to interpret results to prove normal/abnormal conditions of equipment.  Provides training to others in their use. 
  • Basic understanding of Baseband (modems, multiplexers, Broadband and IP technologies and Video technologies/systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies and services and make informed decisions.
  • Good organizational, multi-tasking and team player skills.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • General PC skills and proficiency in use of “Office Suite” software.
  • This role is subject to ITAR/EAR; candidates must be a US Person (this includes US Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Individual such as an asylee or refugee).

  • Pay Rate: The hourly rate for this position is $27.36 to $37.60. It is eligible for overtime as well as shift and weekend pay differentials. The annual bonus target for this position is 5 percent. In determining compensation, Intelsat considers factors including but not limited to position scope and responsibilities, candidate work experience, education/training, skills and internal peer equity.
