6:30 a.m to 3:00 p.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Job Summary
  • Prepare, season and cook soups, meats, vegetables, deserts, and other food for regular and modified diets to be consumed in the hospital according to established procedures and policies.

           

  • Responsible for the quality and presentation of food being cooked or baked.
  • Maintain daily records of meals prepared, and responsible for inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for the cutting, trimming and boning of meat, fish or poultry prior to cooking, including precutting and proper portioning.
  • Assist in setting up and filling trays, cleaning utensils, stoves, work table and other sanitation duties required.
  • Responsible for the exercise of constant care to prevent spoilage and loss through adherence to prescribed recipes.
  • Responsible for proper utilization of all kitchen utensils and machinery.
  • Responsible for on-the-job training of subordinates and others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Committed to the continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care and excellent service.  Adhere to the organization's published values.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

License/Registration/Certification Required: 

License/Registration/Certification Preferred:

Minimum Education Required:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Advanced Education Required:  (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD level and applicable field of study or related field) or equivalent combination of training and/or experience: 

Advanced Education Preferred:  (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD)

Minimum Experience Required:  

Additional Experience Preferred:  Prior work experience as cook in all phases of high volume food production preferred.

Skills (Interpersonal and job complexity):  Skills necessary to operate simple equipment.  Must possess strong interpersonal skills sufficient to guide and direct subordinate workers.

Basic computer, data entry, typing, filing and organization skills required.

Abilities:   

Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.

Environmental Conditions:  Potential exposure to fumes, dust, gases, and odors.   Frequent changes in temperature may occur.  Possibility of exposure to communicable diseases.  Accident hazards are moderate, resulting in minor cuts or burns.
