Office Nurses at Lancaster General Health are an integral part of the healthcare team in our outpatient practices, providing a coordinated and holistic approach to care through our patient centered model.  We partner with the Providers and Medical Assistants in the delivery of patient care and positively impact the lives of our patients.

Additionally, we serve our providers, patients and their families by rooming patients, taking vital signs, reviewing medications, providing clinical advice via triage protocols and providing lifestyle education. As an Office Nurse, we have the opportunity to participate in weekly huddles and are empowered to share new and innovative ideas, influencing clinical practice within our own department as well as the overarching health system.

SUMMARY:  Lancaster General Health/Penn Medicine is currently seeking a Registered Nurse for the Heart Group Office in their General Cardiology Department. The RN facilitates patient care in an office setting by performing patient assessments, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive functions, through patient/provider office visits, nurse visits, and telephone triage. Collaborates with Physician and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) to provide patient care and assumes responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Functions as an independent and interdependent member of the health care team in support of the care needs of the surgical patient population.
  • Performs patient assessments, focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive functions, through patient/provider office visits, nurse visits, and telephone triage. Collects and manages comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation, and concisely relays medical information to physician or APP.
  • Analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues.  Formulates age-appropriate and culturally and ethically sensitive plan of care.
  • Reviews and analyzes laboratory and diagnostic results prior to physicians and APPs, uses critical thinking when communicating results with providers and when discussing with patients.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable manner and coordinates patient care across several disciplines and among caregivers.
  • Provides leadership to other members of the team by effectively communicating expected standards of care and encouraging and supporting team members and their contributions.
  • Educates patients and family members about healthy practices, treatment modalities, medications, non-invasive and invasive procedures Educates patients about healthy practices and treatment modalities.
  • Facilitates invasive procedure patient education, scheduling and coordination.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a LPN or a RN educational program
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), issued by the PA State Board of Nursing
  • American Heart Association CPR certification
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) to Two (2) years of nursing experience in a primary or specialty care physician's office.
  • Prior triage, emergency room, cardiac care, intensive care or other related specialty nursing experience.
