Here's where you come in:

We are currently seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our amazing Technical Services Midwest team. 

 

You're great at:

Team Support 

  • Improve, refine, and augment McKinstry's commissioning procedures and documentation to enhance the commissioning team processes. 
  • Train and mentor commissioning staff. 
  • Assist the commissioning manager in the management of the commissioning team on an as needed basis. 
  • Monitor latest industry trends and share knowledge with commissioning team members. 

 

Project Management 

  • Find ways to reduce operating and maintenance costs, improve the comfort of a building's occupants and extend the life of equipment. 
  • Provide systems training to assigned McKinstry Service mechanics and/or owners representatives. 
  • Develop project specific commissioning budgets, plans, procedures, and schedules. 
  • Manage project specific pre-start, start-up, and test-adjust-balance, and commissioning field work. 
  • Conduct commissioning coordination meetings as needed with owner, project management, contractor, and other commissioning team members as defined in the commissioning plan. 
  • When independent commissioning authorities are involved, coordinate and demonstrate McKinstry's commissioning activities and documentation. 
  • Develop a project specific training agenda and manage the owner training process. 
  • Return complete and legible commissioning documentation to business and brand services for report publication.   
  • Track noted commissioning issues until resolved and closed. 
  • Interact and advise customers on systems. 
  • Assist with requests for proposal, creation of end reports, and presentations to clients. 
  • Assume significant project ownership. 
  • Know project scope, schedule, and budget; notify owner if budget will be exceeded or not in-scope items are being performed early; seek additional compensation prior to execution of extra work. 

 

Systems Analysis 

  • Understand the design concept and intent by reviewing construction documentation, including drawings and scheduled equipment. 
  • Provide recommendations and feedback regarding the design, equipment selection, TAB requirements, maintainability, and potential enhancements. 
  • Review documentation for compliance with McKinstry design standards, control standards, industry best practices, commissioning standards, and control specification (if applicable). 
  • Assess the capability of control scope and documentation to achieve the mechanical design intent.  

 

Systems Verification 

  • Verify the operation of the systems in the commissioning scope, including establishing acceptance criteria, obtaining completed reports from the installing vendor, and direct performing testing and verification. 
  • Verify that control system work station, graphics, alarm dial out, and remote monitoring capabilities are complete per McKinstry standards and contract documents. 
  • Review system as-built documentation for accuracy and completeness. 
  • Communicate noted commissioning issues, questions and concerns through proper channels in a timely manner. 
  • Determine whether the control provider has completed all required responsibilities.  
  • Work with commissioning manager to schedule required equipment calibrations. 

 

What we would like to see from you:

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency for all the responsibilities of a Commissioning Engineer. 
  • Five (5) years of experience in the commissioning field including performance contracting requirements required. 
  • Proficiency in BCA, PECI and/or ASHRAE commissioning procedures required. 
  • BA/BS Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent work experience required. 
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and building automation systems required. 
  • Ability to read and understand construction documents (mechanical drawings, specifications, etc.) required. 
  • Intermediate understanding of other building systems (fire/life safety, plumbing, lighting, security) required. 
  • Hospital, bio-tech, data center, and energy analysis experience preferred. 
  • BCA CCP or ACG CxA certification is preferred. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred.
