Job Summary

The Supply Chain Engineer III is a technical resource that leads key projects related to Growth, Cost Savings, and Quality Improvement. This position is a key resource supporting the 24/7 operation of the facility and annual revenue growth of the business with an annual revenue of $1.5B.  The position is responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment, and procedures to achieve the production goals of the organization. The Supply Chain Engineer II will work closely with operations, maintenance, product development, inventory control, purchasing, quality and distribution to manage projects.


Job Responsibilities

  1. Identify and develop processes and equipment needed to produce and distribute products. 
  2. Perform equipment design evaluations. 
  3. Develop and implement new packaging designs, including new substrate materials and package structures.
  4. Work to complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints. 
  5. Assist with the implementation, and analysis of new products, processes, equipment, and systems to include capability studies. 
  6. May assist in the development and improvement of products. 
  7. Plan and oversee layout of equipment, office, and production facilities.
  8. Conduct studies in operations to maximize workflow and spatial  utilization. 
  9. Ensure workplace safety in the design of equipment, procedures, and plant layout. 
  10. Maximize efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, methods, and work force utilization.
  11. Review existing processes and develop solutions to increase productivity or reduce costs. 
  12. Ensure compliance with approved production methods, quality and food safety standards.
  13. Develop and document operating procedures. 
  14. Utilize statistical data analysis for data driven decision making. 
  15. Communicate effectively with current vendors and develop relationships with new and potential vendors to ensure a broad and current understanding of packaging technology and products. 



The Supply Chain Engineer III is the technical resource for Medifast. The vast majority of projects and activities are in the Supply Chain department, but the engineer can also support any other department in the company at times. Most activities are in the manufacturing area of Supply Chain at one location, however some activities can also involve Product Development, Procurement, Co-manufacturers, Quality, and Distribution at other locations. The position has no direct reports, or budget responsibilities but is expected to deliver year over year cost savings projects.


Knowledge, Education, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering is preferred)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an Engineer in a manufacturing environment; 1-2 years' experience in the food/pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects. 
  • Proficiency in the use of Lean Manufacturing principles and problem-solving techniques.
  • Requires a dynamic, hands-on ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented food-processing environment. 
  • Must have the ability to make decisions, maintain regular and acceptable attendance, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism. 

Ability to stand a minimum of 2 hours at times in various locations throughout the plant on a daily basis, as well as the need to sit in meetings for a minimum of 2-hour intervals
