Thank you for your interest in the MedStar Georgetown University Hospital 2018 Summer Nurse Technician Program! This program is a ten week long, paid externship, held from May 29 through August 3, 2018. It is designed to enhance your academic experience as an undergraduate Baccalaureate Nursing Student. Positions are offered in all specialty areas, from Pediatrics to Critical Care, depending on availability. Throughout the summer, Nurse Technicians will participate in Educational Sessions, a Washington D.C. Scavenger Hunt, and Shadow Days. This program is an exceptional opportunity for you to strengthen your nursing skills, build your confidence and gain exposure to different nursing specialties in an academic, acute care setting.
Admission to the Summer Nurse Technician program is highly selective and competitive. The deadline to apply for this program is C.O.B. December 11, 2017 (based on applicant response).
In order to participate in this program, you must:
- Be currently enrolled in a BSN Program
- Have at least a 3.2 (out of 4.0) current, cumulative GPA
- Be available for full-time employment and rotating shifts (weekend/nights/holidays included)
- Have completed a Med/Surg Clinical Rotation in a hospital setting by Spring 2018

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The incumbent in this position works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and is responsible for the provision of direct nursing care in accordance with the established plan of care. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED: Enrollment in an accredited Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION: BLS required
Student Nurse Technician I (SNT I): Students who have not completed any tour of clinical experience may only perform non-patient care duties such as clerical support.
Student Nurse Technician II (SNT II): BSN student who has completed the sophomore year and has at least one semester of clinical experience.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to perform nursing technologies and provide direct nursing care to patients. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
