Position: CNC Machinist – Additive Manufacturing Technician

Location: Huntersville, NC

The CNC Machinist will be a key member of the core additive manufacturing team in Oerlikon's Additive Manufacturing facility in Huntersville, NC which focuses exclusively on metal additive manufacturing using powder bed processes.


The CNC Machinist will set-up machines to perform required tasks on new and repeat jobs. Select and load proper tooling based on material and finish requirements. Trouble shoot and assist in solving quality and production related issues. Deburr and remove solid supports from additively manufactured parts. Work closely with engineering to ensure proper procedures are followed and quality requirements are met. Maintains the work environment including machine PM and housekeeping. Follows all safety regulations.

We expect

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with multi-tasking machines such as mill-turn, turn-mill
  • Ability to read and program G-code
  • Ability to work in a team-based collaborative environment where priorities may shift regularly
  • The ability to troubleshoot operational issues and relay information to the team
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently once tasked is required
  • Intermediate skill level with MS Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required
  • Comfortable working in Metric and Standard units
  • Excellent knowledge of GD&T
  • Knowledge of secondary processing such as deburring, polishing etc.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5-10 years machining experience
  • Experience working with either Solid Works, Siemens NX or MasterCam
  • CAD/CAM experience programming multi axis CNC machines
  • Wire EDM experience
  • Exotic metal experience such as Inconel, Hastelloy and Titanium is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, detail oriented
  • Can read and understand complex blue prints
  • Ability to work and process geometry with very close tolerances

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in a high mix low volume precision CNC machining environment. Possess vast knowledge of part making processes from start to finish including secondary processes like blasting and tumbling etc. Be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and enjoys problem solving. Have good communication skills and the ability to work in a team. Strive for continuous improvement, innovation and creativity.
