After successful completion of the probationary period, employee will receive off probation wage increase.


Summary:

Provide services on behalf of the Oneida Nation, to address the educational, personal, social, cultural, and emotional needs of American Indian Youth attending public schools in the communities surrounding the Oneida reservation so that they may reach their maximum potential and develop a positive academic, social, and cultural experience. Incumbent is responsible for establishing effective collaboration, coordination and communication between American Indian youth, their families, the Youth Enrichment Specialist, the school and community. Strategic Objectives are to increase GPAs, raise the number of graduates and lower the drop out rates.


Responsibilities:

* Develop and maintain close, cooperative, and beneficial working relationships with students, parents, teachers, administrators, co-workers, peers, and other community/district staff and Nation constituents.
* Networking with parents/guardians and community programs to ensure their input is part of the youth's educational process
* Assist school staff and administrators in developing opportunities for parents to become involved in their child's educational program
* Acquire resource materials to assist parents and/or youth in understanding the policies and procedures of the local school system (public, LEA).
* Document and address the needs and concerns of Native American youth and monitor student academic standing, including but not limited to the development of a long-term plan of action to assist the youth in achieving their personal and educational goals.
* Practice excellent and trauma informed customer service and skills at all times to include, but not limited to, addressing customer and co-workers needs courteously and promptly.
* Implement and maintain a record keeping system to establish and maintain a client development plan and communicate student and programming status and future plans to the student, parents, supervisor, relevant school colleagues. Communication may be in-person, phone, text, email, mail, virtual meetings, completed reports, and newsletters
* Contribute to a team effort and accomplish grant outcomes as required

Skills:

Essential:
* Organizational skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to utilize a computer for data collection, tracking, communication, presentations, reporting, planning, analysis, and general record keeping and provide timely and concise reports as requested on all K-12 youth
* Ability to work as a team to meet the needs of American Indian youth
* Ability to complete any and all tasks with minimal supervision Able to attend parent/teacher conferences and local parent committee meetings
* Ability to be sensitive and receptive to the unique needs and learning styles of elementary aged Native American youth
* Ability to be tactful and mature and work with a wide variety of personalities demonstrating objectivity, respect, courtesy, maturity, and patience
* Willing to learn about preserving the Oneida culture/language for future generations.
* Ability to demonstrate excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

Education Requirement - Or A Closely Related Field:

Education with Equivalent Qualifications:

Nonessential:
* Bachelor's Degree in Education General, Communications, Human Development, Psychology, Native American Studies, Social Work from an accredited college or university. 

Credentials:
Essential:
* Driver's License Personal & Tribal Vehicle
* Insurance Required

Nonessential:
* Must complete Blood Borne Pathogen Training. (Provided by the Oneida Nation.)
* Must be CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certified or the ability to obtain within three (3) months of employment. Must maintain CPR and Red Cross First Aide Certification during employment. (Oneida Nation provides this training.)
* Ability to complete Oneida Certification on reporting Child Abuse and Neglect is required within three (3) months of employment and renewed yearly thereafter.

Experience:

Essential:
* Two (2) years successful experience Customer Service

* Two (2) year successful experience utilizing and/or adapting curriculum resources, including structured literacy methods/techniques.

Nonessential:
* One (1) year previous Experience working with Native American youth K-12
* Knowledge of the Oneida Community, its history, culture, traditions, values and unique needs of Native American Youth.

Must be willing and able to obtain additional related education and training.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and adhere to the Nation Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Policy.

A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or a 2 step TB Skin Test is required within thirty (30) days of employment.

Must provide a copy of diploma/degree, license, or certification upon employment.
