Description

A UI/UX Engineer- Solution Design gives input for the retail systems (point-of-sale, catalog, etc....) user interface and user experience. The engineer should be self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to keep up-to-date on the leading practices in UI/UX. They work with a high degree of independence to develop information systems to support the business. This individual will be expected to understand and develop solutions using JavaFX, CSS, AdobeXD and other technologies as needed. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS •Complete development tasks as assigned with little/no supervision. •Create new screens and maintain old systems to ensure they fit overall design and usability criteria. •Guide junior team members as needed. •Comply with industry and company best practices. •Comply with O'Reilly policies and procedures. •Assist in determining overall look and feel of retail applications. •Create mock-ups and UX documentation. •Write clean, semantic JAVA and CSS. •Experience using version control systems. •Extensive experience with CSS preprocessors such as Sass. •Design icons, banners, related materials for the retail applications. •Maintain a solid knowledge of leading practices in UI/UX usability techniques. •Be able to collaborate across development teams, solution design teams (BSA and Tech Writers), and Stakeholders. •Continually update and maintain a style guide.

SKILLS / EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / ABILITIES Required: •A Degree in Graphic/Web Design or comparable work experience. •Deep knowledge of JavaScript if not proficient in Java. •Deep knowledge of CSS3 standards. •Experience researching and implementing new technologies. •Ability to test and debug. •Good communication skills. •Knowledge of Version Control (like Git). Desired:   •Experience with JavaFX (proficiency with JavaScript libraries will be considered in-lieu of experience with JavaFX). •Extensive experience in designing interface mockups in Adobe XD.
