Senior II Instructional Designer Job Summary: The Sr. Instructional Designer will play a pivotal role in shaping the sales training experience for the Retirement Solutions Division. Working in the Sales Training Team you will create compelling, state of the art eLearning courses as well as engaging instructor led classes for both in person and webinar delivery. You will oversee the design process from start to finish, including needs assessment, design, development, delivery, and evaluation. We are looking for someone with a passion for adult learning and sound training principles that wants to help build a world class training environment. You will be responsible for developing effective onboarding, new hire and up-training curriculum across a variety of platforms (e-learning, in-person, virtual), that maximizes learner comprehension and retention, while supporting a positive employee experience, connecting employees to the organization and its values. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
riefly describe the essential functions and main responsibilities of the job, beginning with the most important, and identify the % of time spent on each. 30% Performance Consultation and Project Management • Consult with business leaders and subject matter experts to assess training needs and learning objectives to recommend solutions • Apply expert level knowledge of adult learning principals and concepts, instructional design theory, learning tools, industry resources, and measurement and evaluation methods. • Utilizes the Training, Project and Knowledge Management teams and subject matter experts as necessary to vet accuracy of content. Works positively with all stakeholders, ensuring effective outcomes. • Provide guidance to team and external partners of best techniques to improve stickiness of content • Collaborate cross functionally to research, create, and implement learning and development strategies and initiatives • Tracks all ongoing initiatives; Able to fluidly communicate each initiative's objective and status. • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and programs and meet established deadlines. 50% Design and Develop Curriculum • Define instructional objectives and select appropriate delivery methods to appeal to all adult learning styles. • Write narratives and collaborate with Trainers and Media Developers to develop storyboards. • Design and build interactive learning experiences using a variety of training methods and reinforcement strategies (e.g. case studies, stories, small group activities, games, simulations, etc.) • Create trainers' guides, participant materials, visuals, job aids., and guide trainers to effectively implement. • Demonstrates strong awareness of RSD and PL VSEM and values, incorporating messaging throughout content. • Makes enhancements as necessary, cascading throughout program, as appropriate for consistency. • Evaluates pilots of new courses and adjusts prior to launches. • Ensures all documentation follows compliance guidelines for approval, storage and retention. • Stays informed of and applies best practices around current professional learning standards and trends in training designs. 20% Training Delivery • Promotes learning opportunities across RSD teams, generating interest and participation. • Leads Train the Trainer sessions to prepare Trainers for effective learning delivery across all modalities • Observe programs and courses to ensure learning transfer and application in the field • Experience with facilitation skills in both webinar and classroom training sessions • Facilitates or co-facilitates classroom or webinar sessions Minimum Qualifications & Experience: List knowledge, skills, abilities, mental demands and behaviors; i.e. # years of experience, education level preferred, licenses and/or certifications, tolerance for multiple demands, ability to work with others, etc. • Bachelor's degree in instructional design or related training degree preferred. • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, including experience in e-learning design, instructional design and content development. • Requires demonstrated mastery of instructional design theory and adult learning principles. • Competency with training development and animation tools required, including Articulate, Vyond, and Camtasia or Captivate preferred. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail. • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Visio also helpful. • Experience with administration of Learning Management Systems helpful; preferably Cornerstone. • Able to work effectively with diverse groups of people and various position levels. • Must be able to plan and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines. • Must be comfortable working in an environment of change. • Experience in a financial services or annuities is not required, but a plus. • Willing to travel up to 20% of the time Disclaimer: The above information on this description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification.
