Richland Library is seeking to hire a Checkout Associate for the Main Library. This person will be someone who is energetic, creative, and outgoing, with a positive attitude. Basic information about the job: Location, salary, hours
•Where: Checkout Dept. ** 1431 Assembly St., Columbia, SC 29201
•Salary: $11.51 per hour
•Hours: 15.125 avg. hours/week: Mon., Wed., and Thurs. 5:30-8:30 pm; every other weekend: Sat. 9-6 pm and Sun. 1:45-6:00 pm.
•Parking Costs: Parking, if needed, is at employee’s expense.

** Richland Library may change location and schedule of any library job.


This job involves being “on the move” in our libraries: It will include standing, walking, crouching, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

Here are some of things you would be doing if serving in this position:
•Assisting customers by checking out materials, renewing materials, placing holds, locating materials, etc., using automated library system; assisting customers (in-library and telephone) with basic informational and directional requests.
•Checking in returned materials.
•Handling fines, fees, payments.
•Entering customer information into automated systems and issues library cards.
•Forwarding telephone and directing calls to proper location from the switchboard or desk; answering basic informational and directional requests from callers.
•Searching for and processing requests.
•Keeping books and other materials neat and in proper order.
•Keeping tables, desks, and other areas neat and free of clutter.
•Performing opening and closing procedures.
•Interpreting and communicating general library policies and procedures to customers.
•May be acting as person in charge of service point during absence of higher-level staff.
•Running reports on automated system; searching for holds and other needed materials listed on reports and sending to proper locations.
•Shelving books and other library materials.
•Reading shelves; may be assigned responsibility over particular sections.
•May be emptying bookdrop, and transporting materials safely and efficiently to appropriate locations.
•May be assisting customers in using catalog, copiers, printer, e-devices, online resources; and in locating library materials.
•Performing other associated duties as required or assigned.
