Description

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's Degree with coursework in industrial design or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 5-7 years' work experience consistent with position duties and responsibilities
• Proven history of custom builds in the areas of fabrication, staging, trussing, rigging and other related infrastructure
• Current and working knowledge of A/V, lighting tools and technologies
• Expertise in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Google Drive and other related design, planning and collaboration software

Experience in Maya, 3DSMax or SketchUp (3D visualization) programs a plus
o Experience in an agency environment, ideally experiential marketing or tradeshow exhibit house, preferred but not required
• 5-15% travel potential
• Must be able to work in a dynamic environment – approximately 50% office/desk and 50% warehouse/shop/field
• Must be flexible, and comfortable, in working non-traditional hours as needed (some nights and weekends)
• Must possess the ability to work independently, as a team lead, or as a team player as needed by various projects

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Technical Production Strategy, Planning, Scoping and Estimating (25%)

  • Client-facing technical planner including space and environmental design for tradeshow and event projects (CAD)

Ability to multi-task, manage priorities and commitments, and meet deadlines

  • Must be able to work in a collaborative manner both internally, and with clients
  • Ability to manage technical aspects of projects/events within budget
  • Excellent judgment with the ability to pro-actively identify issues/obstacles and effectively create solutions
  • Ability to work independently as well as within teams
  • Strong and current vendor and industry relationships and experience with the competitive bidding process
  • Very strong work ethic and ability to thrive and enjoy a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

Technical Production Execution (40%)

  • Develop technical production plans, timelines, asset manifests and logistical plans
  • Partner with key stakeholders (internal / client / vendor) to define technical strategy and resource needs for projects
  • Serve as a conduit for all project related technical communication and oversight on assigned projects
  • Coordinate with production teams to provide all appropriate and approved technical production SOP's and resources
  • Ensure technical assets for events and projects are acquired, installed, and managed throughout all projects stages.
  • Ensure appropriate technical contingencies are addressed and planned for at all stages of projects
  • Ensure assets are accounted for, returned, inventoried, repaired or replaced as necessary at the close of each project
  • Coordinate event services including but not limited to: material handling, rentals, contract labor, rigging, electrical

Administration (15%)

  • Develop and manage Technical Production related budgets for assigned events
  • Submit budgets to account managers, producers and project managers for inclusion in overall event/project budgets
  • Source 3rd party vendors through competitive bidding, work samples, per company policy
  • Close each project by pursuing final costs from vendors and shippers to allow for timely invoicing
  • Ensure invoices for all technical elements are properly approved and processed in a timely basis
  • Negotiate any budget to actual variances with work sources; internally or externally
  • Submit required expense reports and time tracking in accordance with policy
  • Must be able to arrange and manage travel and expenses within company and client policies

Special Projects and other Cross-Functional Contributions (20%)

  • Collaborate with team members and partners to develop and execute special projects and unique executions
  • Consult with design and production teams with key insights, data and critical technical production considerations
  • Contribute to fabrication of custom fixtures and exhibits to required specifications
  • Satisfy scheduling and production requirements for fabrication of wood, laminate, acrylic and metal display parts
  • Contribute to the maintenance and optimization of Nies/RRD's events & exhibits infrastructure, including but not limited to: facilities, equipment, technology/software, processes, staff development, price/cost standards
  • Comply with general safety, EPA, OSHA and fire safety regulations; comply with security policies
  • Maintain forklift certification and operate equipment, vehicles and machinery with skill
  • Manage project preparation details, including pull, pack and prep processes
  • Design and/or Fabricate custom shipping crates, road cases and other protective measures for event properties
  • Maintain inventory counts on client-owned and internal assets and interface with WMS/ERP systems to document
  • Travel to client events and activations to execute or supervise technical exhibit installations and tear-outs
  • Develop graphic templates or specifications to source or produce custom graphics across multiple print methods
