The Facilities Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing various types of facilities maintenance and upkeep at Rumpke owned properties.  They must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and endurance to complete tasks.  Laborers must also be able to concentrate on their tasks.  The ability to understand and communicate information is also essential.  This position routinely requires moderate to extreme physical exertion and may require prolonged standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, squatting, reaching, stretching, and working in awkward positions.  The hours and physical demand may vary by location.  


  • Operate various hand-held manual, electrical and gas-powered tools and equipment and ensure all equipment and tools are cleaned and stored properly
  • Facility grounds keeping including but not limited to mowing, weed eating, weed spraying, cleaning sidewalks, and snow removal from facility grounds and surrounding areas
    • Snow removal and salt application to driveways, walkways, and parking lots of Rumpke facility.
    • Mow and edge lawn, using power mowers and trimmers
    • Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws
    • Trim or pick flowers and clean flower beds
    • Maintain exterior property, including but not limited to sprinkler, mulch beds, trash, sidewalks
  • Follow all health and safety regulations when operating equipment and tools
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Follow instructions from supervisor
  • Follow Rumpke's policies and procedures
  • Assist with general maintenance offsite as needed
  • Professional interaction with internal and external customers
  • Performs duties in a safe manner in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Maintain a professional work atmosphere by performing and communicating in a manner that promotes good relationships with customers, clients, co-workers, and management
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the job (prolonged, repetitive physical exertions, including standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, stretching, climbing and working in awkward positions and tight areas)
  • Basic knowledge of general maintenance and internal/external painting
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
  • Ability to work in various conditions with exposure to weather elements.
  • Self-starter and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Good verbal communication skills to be able communicate effectively and professionally and able to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Experience working with various hand tools and equipment; including the ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Knowledge and experience with grounds maintenance
  • Ability to safely perform duties
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and/or holidays
  • Additional skills may be required to perform additional task(s) specific to work location, department, or line of business



  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be able to produce satisfactory pre-employment drug test and background check results
  • Must have at least a valid driver's license and have good driving record to meet Rumpke driving qualifications
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, instructions, signs, signals, and safety training


  • Exposure to noise, heat, dust, and fumes as found in a repair facility
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions
  • Exposure to residential and commercial waste
  • Possible occasional local travel
