Description

The Area Public Affairs manager will help develop and expand its Government Outreach program. They will liaise with officials, community stakeholders, and government organizations, at the local government level in order to educate on the importance of proper waste disposal and recycling and share factual information about Rumpke facilities and future plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF POSITION:

  • Perform job duties in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and company policies
  • Build relationships with government officials and interest groups throughout Rumpke's footprint
  • Sit on boards, associations, business commerce, etc.
  • Identify and maintain appropriate Chamber memberships
  • Attend political events
  • Nurture key relationships between or before engagements on new projects according to a set schedule (much like an account development specialist)
  • Assist with Business Development-privatization of landfills both within and outside our footprint.
  • Create required reporting that they must share at area meetings
  • Actively participate in Solid Waste District discussions and assist leadership with developing and negotiating host community agreements
  • Work with Communications to host neighborhood meetings and assist in the development of necessary tools such as videos and newsletters
  • Work with Communications on a municipal newsletter geared to informing and educating about the importance of Rumpke's work
  • Participate in appropriate industry, commerce, and municipal associations
  • Identify strategic community and political partners and match them with key Rumpke leadership to cultivate two-way, transparent relationships
  • Identify mechanisms to support key groups, organizations, or representatives
  • Develop public outreach plans for each region based on projects
  • Identify lobbying opportunities and resources
  • Track community involvement for each Region
  • Report progress monthly to the Area President
  • Identify and involve internal resources such a communications, business development, and municipal reps as needed to complement projects
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere with a culture of respect for others
  • Complete other duties as assigned

  • Flexible schedule with regional travel and anticipated evening and weekends hours

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum seven years of work or internship experience in government relations, public affairs, or a related field
  • Experience in local government
  • Knowledge of the waste and recycling industry
  • Must have worked with and have knowledge of lobbying resources throughout Rumpke's service regions
  • Must be able to identify key stakeholders and influencers in target areas, whom they should meet at Rumpke, and when and what topics should be covered
  • Person must have an awareness of sunshine and lobbying laws 

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment
  • Prolonged sitting and repetitive motions performed while answering the phone and working on a computer

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language
