Overview of Position

The Lab Educator will coordinate and deliver clinical activities during lab sessions. They will participate in additional open lab sessions at the Paramedic Program. They will also maintain, clean, and organization the Simulation Labs and training center equipment. They will complete and maintain student records for all clinical skills and lab sessions.

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts self in a professional, dignified and compassionate manner at all times
  • Capable of communicating clearly, effectively and in English via written and verbal means
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance during all interactions
  • Ensures that all Policies and Procedures are followed
  • Interacts professionally with management, colleagues from other EMS agencies, public safety personnel and other healthcare providers and members of the public
  • Performs classroom lectures for paramedic students on an as needed basis
  • In conjunction with Paramedic Program Director, the Paramedic Program Clinical Coordinator and the Paramedic Program Lead Instructor insures that all paramedic student training is in compliance with State regulations, the National Standard Curriculum and established departmental policy
  • In conjunction with Paramedic Program Clinical Coordinator, coordinates and delivers clinical activities and lab sessions
  • Review clinical educational policies to ensure that they are current and assist in drafting new policies as needed
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of Simulation Labs
  • Completes student records for all clinical skills and lab sessions
  • Assists with the recruitment, interviewing, processing and selection of all students associated with educational programs
  • Completes annual training as determined by the paramedic Program Director
  • Takes appropriate measures to work within established budgets
  • Participates in the instruction of courses offered by the Training Center as the need arises both on site and offsite
  • Any other activities as assigned by Paramedic Program Director

Physical Demands of the Position:

  • Standing, walking, running, sitting and stooping, kneeling, bending/twisting, reaching, grasping
  • Communications (talking, writing and hearing), far vision (100 feet or more), near vision (10 inches or less)
  • Carrying up to fifty pounds of equipment up to half a mile on uneven ground
  • Safely lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling equipment up to 100lbs on their own or 200lbs with assistance

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Effective communication, oral and written skills.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures
  • Read, write and speak English as well as add, subtract and do simple math equations
  • Ability to express effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public
  • Thorough knowledge of NJAC Statute 8:40 (Manual of Standards for Licensure of Mobility Assistance Vehicles & Ambulance Services) and 8:41 (Mobile Intensive Care Program Regulations) as they relate to this position
  • Thorough knowledge of NJAC Statute 8:40A and 8:41A as they relate to this position
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Standard Curriculum for EMT Paramedics and the EMS Education Agenda for the Future
  • Thorough knowledge of the theories, objectives, principles and techniques of basic and advanced pre hospital emergency care
  • Knowledge of other standards, rules, regulations, and policies related to EMS
  • Computer literacy

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Possession of an Associate s degree preferred
  • Must possess and maintain current NJ MICP or MICN certification/license
  • Must possess ACLS and/or PALS Instructor certification
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver s license
  • Special Requirements:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
    • Driver s license record check and criminal background check
    • Minimum of 1 year clinical experience at the advanced life support level

Medical:

Applicants will be required to submit to a medical examination, drug testing, TB testing or Hepatitis vaccinations prior to and during employment at the expense of RWJBarnabas Health.
