Position Summary:
The NPI Buyer is responsible for quoting, negotiating pricing, and purchasing inventory, prototype materials, tooling, and services in support of New Product Introduction (NPI) activities. This role requires an assessment of vendor and prototype shop capacity and lead time to coordinate with project timelines and due dates. Works with 10+ Design Engineers on multiple programs. The NPI Buyer reports to Supply Chain.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
*Primary Liaison between SIG SAUER and our suppliers during the NPI process.
*Select potential suppliers based on commodity/project and scope/budget.
*Responsible for establishing new sources as approved suppliers.
*Create and maintain purchase orders.
*Pull all documentation and send out quote requests to suppliers.
*Evaluate supplier quotes and awards accordingly.
*Able to accurately track critical dates to drive projects within timelines.
*Review Engineering Change Requests. Identify open PO liability, effectivity dates, and item attributes prior to approval.
*Work with Planning to disposition excess and obsolete material.
*Review item attributes and submit required changes to the Master Data Management team to implement.
*Work with Production Buyers and facilitate the smooth transition of new items from development through First Article acceptance and release to production.
*A contributing member of the MRB team for dispositioning non-conforming material.
*Escalate supplier-related issues in a prompt manner.
*Perform other tasks and duties as required.
Education and/or Experience:
*Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree preferred. APICS certification is a plus.
*5+ years of experience as a Buyer within a manufacturing environment; 3+ years of experience in an NPI role.
*Previous work experience within the optics industry is a plus.
*Proven track record working with international suppliers; Asian suppliers preferred.
*Experience with raw material, PCBAs, molded plastics, glass and swiss, lathe, vertical and horizontal machined parts, and the various processes involved. MIM experience is a plus.
*Ability to read and understand Engineering Drawings.
*Working experience with ERP systems, Oracle EBS, and Agile is preferred.
*Microsoft Office Suite, proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred.
*Working knowledge of item attributes and their effects on MRP messages.
*Working experience with FARS and DFARS.
*ITAR experience, especially with technical data transfer.
*Excellent organizational skills.
*Presents possible solutions when escalating an issue.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills within all levels of the organization.
*Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
*Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
Working Conditions:
*Position consists of sitting 75% of the workday.
*Travel 10-25%.
*Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
*Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
