Manager, Assembly

1st Shift

Position Summary:
Direct and coordinate all work activities and resources for the rapidly expanding Electro-Optics Assembly Department. Manage the team to achieve short-term and long-term production goals with a bias towards continuous improvement across all aspects of production and product quality. This position will require a hands-on approach to training, lean layout reviews, NPI assembly line creation, and leading/supporting lean project initiatives.


Job Duties & Responsibilities:
Management
*Manage 30+ person, two shift Assembly Department responsible for building electro-optics, optics, and laser products in a high product mix (low to high complexity) production environment.
*Schedule daily work assignments; communicate build plan to department; and adjust and monitor progress throughout the day.
*Manage all aspects of material flow through production to assure product flow.
*Make sure all associates understand production metrics and goals.
*Execute and maintain a safe work environment for all associates. Monitor activities making certain that the department is compliant with company safety program.
*Constantly increase departmental effectiveness by training, coaching, mentoring, celebrating successes, addressing performance shortfalls, and by maintaining consistent and timely methods of communication.
*Develop and maintain training protocol, certification of assembly tasks, and management of assembly leaders.
*Manage metrics analysis for data driven decision making.
*Develop and increase assembly line efficiencies using lean manufacturing principles.
*Oversee the recruiting and retention efforts required to ensure operator capital is in place to support continued growth and meet business needs.
*Develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of people, including Assemblers, supervisors, executive team, and members of other departments.
*Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations and assist the Assembly Supervisors in the same tasks with thoughtfulness and thoroughness.
*Handle the development, discipline and termination of employees in conjunction with Human Resources in accordance with company policy.

Quality
*Drive product quality throughout the department to ensure processes and quality checks are followed to maintain absolute product consistency.
*Oversee all process training, and continually expand cross training.
*Assist Quality group by establishing quality checks, procedures, and addressing training needs.
*Work closely with Engineering and Quality to resolve component and product technical issues.
*Identify scrap generators and drive technical teams to develop solutions.
*Use metric-based decision making for PPI and other in-house improvement and correction protocols.

Delivery Performance
*Work closely with the supply chain to assure daily production goals are met.
*Collaborate with production planners, purchasing, component warehouse, and management to maintain consistent material flow.
*Update management with production data, KPI metrics and other data as directed.


Other
*Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems. Improve and roll-out production tracking and quality control systems.
*Support new product introduction and work within cross functional groups to assure smooth transition from development into production.
*Overall responsibility for supporting of 5S culture, and lean manufacturing.
*Performs other duties as assigned.



Education and/or Experience:
*Bachelor's degree in technical discipline or equivalent based on experience.
*5-7+ year's manufacturing management or supervisory role, preferably in assembly production.
*Technical knowledge of assembly production, line layouts, assembly tooling and techniques, strong understanding of lean principles, and a track record of lean accomplishments.
*Exceptional verbal and written communication, organizational skills and attention to detail.
*Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and meet deadlines.
*Demonstrated knowledge of ERP systems, Oracle experience preferred. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
*Experience with automated production lines a plus.
*Excellent interpersonal, supervisory and leadership skills.

Working Conditions:
*Able to lift up to 25 pounds
*Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which is required in designated areas.
