Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

Supervises the day-to-day activities and staff of the Environmental Services Department assuring compliance with related regulatory standards and hospital policies.

Essential Duties:

  • Supervises the day-to-day activities and staff of the Environmental Services Department.  Duties include hiring, training, counseling, evaluating staff performance, and when necessary disciplining and/or discharging staff.
  • Prepares work schedule and staffing assignments for departmental personnel; makes changes to individuals\u2019 work schedule and/or assignment as needed.
  • Inspects all work areas to monitor quality and quantity of work performed, monitor compliance with related regulatory standards and hospital policies, and assure a safe, clean and orderly environment is maintained.
  • Assumes responsibility for the procurement and allocation of cleaning supplies and protective equipment.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental objectives, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Investigates and resolves issues and concerns regarding the environmental services function; recommends changes to departmental work systems and procedures as necessary to improve the efficiency and productivity of the department.
  • Assumes responsibility for linen supply purchases and distribution; assures expenditures are within approved budget.
  • Coordinates the removal of medical and general waste and destruction of confidential papers by external vendors.
  • Oversees the planning, coordination, scheduling, and execution of special projects as directed.
  • Participates on various Hospital committees/task forces; attends meetings and performs related tasks as required.
  • Maintains departmental files and records.
  • Prepares departmental documents and reports as required.
  • Facilitates and/or attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining the Hazards Waste Management Manual and associated reports.
  • Supports and serves as a role model for our mission, vision, values, and customer service initiatives. Adheres to the organization\u2019s policies & procedures, and compliance guidelines.
  • Works with House Supervisor to assure facilities needs are met.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements General Requirements\u2022 N/AWork Experience\u2022 Minimum of two years of related Environmental Services experience including supervisory responsibilitiesEducation\u2022 High school diploma or GED.Specialized Knowledge and Skills\u2022 Knowledge and understanding of general cleaning methods, materials and equipment \u2022 Knowledge of regulatory standards and hospital policies applicable to the environmental services function including infection control and safety practices \u2022 Written and computer skills necessary to prepare required documentation \u2022 Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with all levels of Hospital staff, vendors, and others in the exchange of information. The incumbent is also required to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful manner \u2022 Skills necessary to provide guidance, training, prioritize and review the work of assigned staff \u2022 Analytical ability to coordinate departmental activities with other Hospital departments in an effort to facilitate uninterrupted operations \u2022 Mental ability to adapt and respond to multiple priorities and demands, deal with the concerns of staff, and fulfill productivity requirements \u2022 Physical ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time and conduct building inspections
