I. Job Summary
The Assistant Manager is responsible for the performance and productivity of the store personnel and the representative to the customer when the manager is not on duty. This person needs to be familiar with all aspects of the operation so they can assume the role of manager on an interim basis.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Must be familiar and in compliance with all Stine Policies and Procedures
B. Fill in for the manager when he/she is absent.
C. Be familiar with duties, goals, and responsibilities of manager.
D. Know daily job routine of the manager and perform those duties.
E. Ensuring that the WOW and Customer Engagement expectations and employee engagement are met and the programs are properly administered.
F. Delegating tasks and following-up to ensure task completion.
G. Observing and providing feedback on Associate performance
H. Motivating Associates to perform at a high level.
I. Promoting and encouraging Associate development.
J. Maintaining department profitability through research, report analysis, identifying trends, defining problems and developing appropriate responses.
K. Completing reports accurately and on time. Using reports to make decisions and drive sales.
L. Working with Associates, peers, and Store Manager to anticipate problems and plan for upcoming events.
M. Setting objectives and ensuring they are met.
N. Using established procedures to hire Associates and others.
O. Training and developing associates through formal training programs, providing both informal (e.g., on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g., written evaluation) job performance-based feedback, delegating and follow-up (i.e., operational control).
P. Communicating and maintain all operational areas and merchandising standards.
Q. Attending Product Knowledge training.
R. Shopping and studying competition to identify trends and develop new ideas.
S. Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
T. Suggest new merchandise lines, new sales techniques, etc., to the manager and/or buying office.
U. Make price changes, by hand or mechanically, on merchandise according to price change sheets, invoices, price books, etc.
V. Handle the training and development of sales personnel in assigned department(s).

A. Education: Must have a high school education or equivalent and preferably some extended education beyond high school.
B. Training and Experience: A minimum of three years in the building industry or in a management position.
C. Job Knowledge: Should have a good knowledge of the building material industry and of managing people.
D. Physical Demands: Work requires some physical effort; involves standing, much walking and medium lifting. Works in and out of an air-conditioned environment. (Important: This job is classified in the physical demands section of the job description [Form IV-31] as constant medium work and occasional heavy work. This form must be reviewed with and signed by the applicant.
