This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing. The position works closely with the Rehab Department to identify and develop Restorative programs needed by residents. The position teaches/supervises Restorative Nursing programs delivered to all residents by Nursing Assistants.
Assist in the orientation of all new nursing department employees per position.
Provide Resident/Family education when applicable.
Teaches, supervises, and coordinates all Restorative Nursing Programs per facility Standard of Practice Policies and Procedures in cooperation with Therapies. Specific Coordination in Restorative Nursing will pertain to:
Assessment Skills, MDS, Care Plans Physical/Chemical Restraints Fall Management Program Skin Management Program Bowel and Bladder Management Pain Management Restorative Dining Program, and Nutrition Management Exercise Programs Documentation to fulfill state and federal regulations and facility policy in regards to restorative Knowledge and education of staff on lifts used by facility, ADL Program, ROM Program, Ambulation Program, Transfer Bed Mobility, Assistive Devices, and Communication Techniques.
Attend resident care conferences and/or participate in care plan development for Restorative Programs as appropriate.
Supervise Nursing Assistants and/or Restorative Aide pertaining to Restorative Program.
Participates in the facility Quality Improvement program as directed by Director of Nursing.
Participates in campus wide safety program.
Facilitates weekly Restorative meetings.
Graduate from an approved school of nursing. Current license as registered nurse in the State of Illinois. Two years of education at an accredited college or university with specialty in geriatrics or rehabilitation preferred. Four years of experience, including two years in long-term care. One year of experience in a Medicare certified nursing role, and at least one year in a supervisory position. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written in English. Ability to supervise, motivate and direct staff. Ability to enlist cooperation of unit personnel and staff in other departments. Ability to maintain good professional relationships with physicians and to relate well to residents and families. Accuracy, organization, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work under pressure, ability to work independently and arrange work schedule to meet objectives and deadlines Interest in and desire to work with older adults with understand and compassion.
In addition, specialized training and/or certification in Restorative Nursing required per State requirements.
