Job Description:

TrueCar is looking for an Engineering Manager to be a part of our leadership team. This person will work with our VP, Software Engineering and the technology team to accomplish key business objectives. You will be expected to manage a team (both onsite in Santa Monica and remote in the US) of technology professionals working in the Agile framework. If you have a technical background and are interested in all the challenges of people leadership, you could be a great fit for engineering management at TrueCar!


  • Work closely with other Technology and Product Management teams to understand the product strategy

  • Work with other product development and technology teams to ensure we share code, tools, and processes in order to consistently improve leverage to re-use TrueCar solutions, especially those that are central to our competitive advantages

  • Help develop the careers of your direct reports and assign them to projects that are tailored to their skill levels, personalities, work styles, and professional goals

  • Build teams that are collaborative, inclusive, and respectful of each other

  • Provide continuous feedback, address underperformance, and recognize the individual strengths and contributions of your team members

  • Create plans for prioritizing technical and resourcing challenges in your organization

  • Recruit great engineers in collaboration with TrueCar's recruiting team


  • At least 2+ years of experience leading a team of engineers

  • Previous experience as a hands-on technical contributor

  • Strong software development, design, and architecture experience

  • Ability to dive into technical details and eliminate ambiguity

  • You enjoy working in a collaborative environment, and you're committed to creatively and efficiently driving projects to completion

  • You've worked with geographically distributed teams

  • Strong communication skills with engineers and non-technical folks

  • Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated personal initiative and strong ownership


  • Hands-on technical experience with any of the following: Ruby, Rails, AWS, React, Backbone, Angular, RESTful API, etc.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a similar field
