The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research (hereafter referred to as AVCR) is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff for the UCSB Office of Research (OR). The AVCR reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR), supporting the VCR by managing and ensuring the successful implementation of divisional strategic objectives.
The AVCR formulates and implements strategic, tactical, organizational, financial and operational solutions to research development, operations and compliance issues and investigates and resolves issues with potential campus-wide and/or university-wide impact and consequence. In close coordination with the VCR, the AVCR provides leadership within the Office of Research and reporting units, campus-wide, UC system-wide and nationally on matters of research operations, compliance and development. *LI-KA1
Minimum RequirementsBachelor's Degree.
Ten or more years of relevant experience.
Thorough knowledge of organizational processes, protocols and procedures.
Excellent consulting, relationship building and strategic thinking skills
Excellent ability to establish mission and goals at the macro-level; to lead subordinate management to develop goals in alignment with mission.
Sophisticated leadership abilities to establish department goals, and motivate and influence others to achieve.
Desirable RequirementsAdvanced degree.
Expert level knowledge in research misconduct regulations.
Knowledge of export control regulations.
Skills to conduct investigations.
